According to analysts at NASA, newly-discovered Comet 2013 A1 (Siding Spring) will pass very close to Mars in Oct. 2014. Observations through March 1, 2013, suggest a flyby only 31,000 miles from the red planet's surface, and NASA cannot yet rule out an impact

The comet is not expected to create a spectacular meteor shower on Mars or be a threat to spacecraft in orbit or on the ground. The comet will have to be very, very close to Mars for its debris to pose any real risk. The comet's tail is more or less pointed away from Mars during the close encounter. Millimeter-sized grains will be ejected at about 1 m/s (2.2 mph), and would take more than a year to travel 100,000 km from the comet.

Using a Monte-Carlo method the comet shows roughly a 1 in 1250 chance (0.08%) of impacting Mars.

My own experience of Monte-Carlo methods suggests that this will create a 100% chance of an impact event.

~4km ball travelling at 56 km/s, past an object 6778km in diameter. Barring miniscule trajectory curvature from gravity, it'll take just a hair over two minutes to pass Mars. Within a "strike cone" that at its smallest, is several times larger than the planet's diameter.
