Okay seriously, what is that? Damned if it doesn't look like a statue or petrified victim.

Actually, it's hard to tell whether it's something sticking up, or a depression in the ground. Optical illusion is my guess, and it's a dent in the ground. See how the arm seems to merge into the sand? That wouldn't make optical sense if it's a form sticking up out of the ground.

People see faces & human forms in every damn thing.

If you squint and tilt your head slightly there's something that looks like an XCOM lizardman towards the lower right. And at the middle right there is obviously a sandcrawler far away.

Well. http://www.ustream.tv/nasajpl. Potentially 2 planets with life in one month. The key word is definitive.

New pictures, of Mars at night.
Bah. I was hoping for images of the night sky, maybe trying to find one of Mars' moons. or a horizon image. Instead we get more pictures of the rocks and stuff :|

There are 2 different colored types of rock in that picture, and the "spike" in the top section looks similar in color to the rock on the left. Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be an oddly shaped piece of the other rock.

Takes time. This picture only got to Earth eight hours ago.

Unless its a remnant of an ancient Martian device/structure/vehicle.
If that happens to be true, and said Martians are still around and find it significant, we may end up starting a interplanetary war.

My guess is it's debris from some other lander project. Or hell, maybe even this one, though it doesn't look very "fresh".

Failing that, it's clearly part of some Martian war machine, and messing with it will have dire consequences for us all.

Looks like a small pebble of harder silvery shinier material which has been sitting ontop of the softer sandy material below it long enough for it to erode around it from wind, thus leaving the non eroded rock on a pillar. Eg like this
