Yeah, I get the concept of burning something to determine what it's made of, but I thought it was just gonna be a small burn rather than setting a phaser to disintegrate :P
I'm betting that someone very dwarfy built the Curiosity rover.

It's going to use that laser to turn all the rocks on Mars into ‼MAGMA‼.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.
