((I like how you had the player characters know each other if they were in the same place. That's real nice!))

Gregory gleefully rubbed a hand over the breastplate of his new armor and held his spear, testing it's balance. A perfect start for an adventure! He took the time to slip on all his armor, strapping it all in place correctly as he had been taught, slipping on the shield, tucking the knife into his belt and the book into a pocket and finally grabbing his new spear.

"How do I look Stalith? Ready to go look for some trouble?"

Stick with Stalith and read my book.

Stalith yawned loudly and rubbed his eyes a little, mostly out of habit then of drowsiness. He didn't even make an effort to look sharp, since he relished in looking lazy and careless in some occasions. It caused people to think he was weak and unable to do anything right, which when played right granted him an edge in any combat situation.

On the other side, he did look sharp whenever he was needed to, so that he wouldn't lose any opportunities because someone thought he was a complete airhead. He shook his head a little and took a look at the equipment presented to him. He was really disappointed by the fact the dwarves had widepread access to steel while the humans were mostly limited to forging with iron. The human smiths really should start getting their work right instead of relying on dwarven imports.

Mental ramble aside, he was quick to slide into the full set of iron armor, strapping each piece with care and ajusting the helm on top of his short black and slightly spiked hair - in a world where a good amount of dwarves and basically all elves had long and brightly-colored hair, humans and their fairly dull coloring really stood out. He grinned as he put his shield behind his back and spun the sword a few times with the handle between his fingers before sheathing it. Last but not least, he took the knife and put it by his hip's belt It would be better to keep it handy instead of leaving it inside a backpack. In the heat of combat, if his sword was lost, he could always resort to the knife as a last-ditch measure.

He took an inquisitive look at Gregory, the man who had spent three years more than his own six learning in the Guild. Stalith was younger than him, and consequently had less experience, but he certainly wanted to make up for that in the field. He took a look at the book before the other man hid it in his pocket.

"I'm not sure. It depends on your idea of trouble, but I do think we should get some supplies before departing to look for any adventure." he made a gesture towards his empty backpack. "And I hope you can lend me that book sometime. I really could use some training."

Get all gear then check if the guild is giving out free supplies (food, water, basic stuff for medical and survival necessities) to new adventurers. If they aren't, then look for a good place for buying those. Also check for any place selling wood and both tools for woodcutting and carpentry.

If Gregory spends some time reading his book, spar with someone while he does so.

Cero silently watched Fekod don his equipment. What an excitable dwarf, he thought. He looks ready to bash in some elf skulls. As these thoughts ran through his head he strapped on the breastplate and strapped his hammer and pick onto his back. He finished by attaching the shield to his back.

He'd given some thought as to his employment after Graduation and still hadn't decided. Some good Beer might help me decide. He looked over at Fekod, He looks like a mighty fine drinking companion. Hmm... but should I spend my money on beer? Maybe it'd be better spent on something else. Nah, what's better than a good dwarven drink? Nothing that's what.

Cero had always been a socially awkward dwarf. He didn't know how to read and write terribly well but that did not mean he was unintelligent. In fact, it was quite the opposite. His love for the imaginative and intelligent had caused him to be cutoff from the other dwarves in his class. When mining, instead of carelessly tossing gems over his shoulder into a wheelbarrow like the others, he would stare at them, captured by their hypnotic hues and mesmerizing patterns. He preferred plans and tactics with weapons instead of just brute force. Even though he was quite good at hitting hard. So, when he went to ask Fekod if he would like to have a drink with him it came out something like this, "Would you err... like to have a uh err drink... um... with *gulp* um... me?"

Equip all of the gear and ask Fekod if he wants to have a drink.

Nodding, I slip the book into my bag, and sling the quiver of arrows over my shoulder. Strapping the smallsheild onto my forearm, I sheathe the sword at my waist and grasp my bow. Thanking the guildmasters, I say my goodbyes and head into the woods. There's nothing left for me here.

((Dem posts, sooo fast. That calendar of Jan-December translated into DF was a nice touch there.

Also, those Dwarves are really well written.))

Alana was pleased to see how far she went, and attributed most of her blessings to the aid of her only relative she knew - her sister, including all those other friends she met in the Guild during her time.

After thanking the Guildmaster, she chose: the Bow and Quiver of a hundred arrows, a Book, three Wooden Blocks, and one Disguise, noting that it would all be easily carried thanks to the style of her clothing - customized for rugged terrain and harsh weather, including straps and pockets done by her sister.

"Well, it looks like this is it. A...new adventure for both of us, sister." she said as her sister accompanied her from the ceremony. "It may be years before we see each other again, I'll be sure to bring something back for you!"

"Check if they're handing out food. I'm famished! Oh, and...how long did you say you were leaving?"

Cutting out the post-ceremonial chat, the pair decided to see if there was any other sort of supplies that could be brought on Alana's adventure - especially tools needed for forage or food and water supplies. A backpack would prove a valued necessity, as would the complementary dagger for fletching and most other mundane things.

Fekod turned to Cero, a grin on his face.
"Aye, perfect way to celebrate our graduation! You lead the way, lad."

Editing Action: Head to the tavern with Cero, keeping an eye out for bulletin boards or anything that would shed some light on good places to adventure.

Yes, you may. I suggest picking one before the second turn. Guildmasters will be in blue, and enemies will be in red.

Tiruin, I suggest you picking a color for your sister, too.

You are a dwarf. There is no tavern in a dwarven settlement! lol
I'll just make you go to the booze stockpile. Note: in a dwarven settlement, adventurers may pack some food and booze for free.

you are an Elf. You don't need food. I'm not sure about water, though.                                                     //recently found out that they really do. Durrr... Well, I guess it makes up for all the other weaknesses.
Your backpack is automatic - you had it from the beginning.

I will be writing in second person from now on, it's getting a bit too hard to do 3rd person.  :)

if you have $100, you are okay, the guildmaster gave you it.
If you have more, I'll change it.

Stick with Stalith and read my book.

Your book is unwritten, like all new books given out to adventurers. the book is used to record new discoveries and such.

Elves don't eat?! D:
Also, knew about that backpack. Caellath told me.

Also, don't you mean second person? Which uses a lot of 'you's?

Alana has 100.

Roll To Adventure! - Turn 1, The Decisions
« Reply #42 on: August 02, 2012, 10:50:50 am »

Turn 1 – The Decisions

Granite 1, 251
It is about noon

At Ceyecanethitha, “Chance Squids”, Forest Retreat
Mahtan Anarion’s POV

“The book, the bow and arrows, the sword, and the shield would be good.”
“Are you sure? The sword you can sheathe, but it would be hard to load the bow…”
“I’m sure.”
“One book, one bow, one hundred arrows, one sword, and one shield!”

A few minutes later, two elves come back with them.

Nodding, you put the book in your bag, the quiver of arrows over your shoulder. You sheathe the sword, strap the small shield to the right lower arm, and grasp your bow.

“Thank you,” you say bowing.

You leave and head to the woods.

In Liwaalisa, “Strike Bud”, Forest Retreat
Alana Teucer’s POV

You were so pleased, you blessed your sister, all your friends, and thanked the guildmaster after blessing him.
“The bow and the hundred arrows would be good… the book, the wooden blocks, and the disguise would be good also… Yeah. That would be enough.”

As the guildmaster went to fetch the items, you turn to your sister.

“Well, I guess this is it. A new adventure… for both of us. It may be years before we see each other again! I’ll be sure to bring something back for you.”
“Check if they’re handing out medical supplies. Hopefully you won’t need them, but just in case…” your sister says a bit worried.

The guildmaster comes back with your items, and you store and put them on. The disguise is worn; It looks like a goblin.

“Do you have medical supplies that we can get for free?”
“No, but you can buy a few. Just show them the certificate and they’ll mark a box that says ‘has purchased first medical supplies,’ and they’ll let you buy some for 80% off.”

At Nishvukrig, “Trade Drifts”, Mountain Home
Fekod Sladeborn’s POV

You put on each piece of your new armor, taking your time to make sure everything was strapped correctly. Strapping on both of your shields, you slammed them together, producing a very satisfying sound. Some of the other dwarves shot you a glance, like “Don’t do that again.”

“Would you… er… like to have a… uh.. drink… um… with *gulp* um… me?” Cero asked
You turn to Cero, a grin on your face.
“Aye, perfect way to celebrate your graduation! You lead the way, lad.”
You both go to the booze stockpile and take a small drink.

Cero Undulai’s POV

You silently watch Fekod put on his equipment. What an exitable- Your thought is disrupted as Fekod bangs his shields together. You resist the urge to yell, “Ah! Don’t do that!”
You put on your armor and strapped your hammer and pick on your back. You finish by attaching the shield to your back.

You’ve been thinking about your future employment for the last couple of months, wondering what you would do after graduation. You still haven’t decided.
Looking at Fekod, you think He looks like a mighty fine drinking companion.

You’ve always been a socially awkward dwarf, and you know that.
You’ve never been able to read and write that well, but that did not mean you were not intelligent. In fact, you were the dwarf that didn’t just throw gems and ores carelessly into a wheelbarrow behind you. You looked, mesmerized, at the gems and ores, looking at the patterns, until another miner pushed you out of the way, chipped the gem or ore, and threw it in the wheelbarrow. This, however, allowed you to tell if you were near water, a chasm, or magma. You saved many lives this way. But you still have been a socially awkward dwarf, so when you asked Fekod if he would like to have a drink with you, it came out as “Would you… er… like to have a… uh… drink… um… with *gulp* um… me?”

Fekod turns to you and says “Aye, perfect way to celebrate your graduation! You lead the way, lad.”
You both go to the booze stockpile and take a small drink.

At Jonicmon, “Basement Holy”, Capital
Gregory Gianovich’s POV

You gleefully rub your hand over your breastplate of your armor set and hold your spear, testing its balance. It seems like the weaponsmiths made it specially for you! You have a hand hold that, when you hold it, feels like a metal sponge, and it has perfect balance! It was perfect! Then, you tuck the knife into your belt and put the book into you pocket.

“How do I look Stalith? Ready to go look for some trouble?”
“I’m not sure. It depends on your idea of trouble, but I do think we should get some supplies before departing to look for any adventure. And I hope you can lend me that book for some time, I could use some training.”
“Hah! Use this book? It’s empty, of course! We need to buy a book to get any content!”
“Huh. Well, I guess we should see if they’re giving out free supplies like food, water, medical stuff, and other stuff like that…”
You look in your chest, and you find a small piece of paper.

Adventurer’s Guild of Satthaomon
Gregory Gianovich, Official Advntrr
[ ] free food
[ ] free water
[ ] free medical supplies
[ ] finished first quest

Stalith does the same.
“Huh, so they do give us some free stuff…”

Stalith Ngirathil’s POV

You yawn loudly and rub your eyes a little mostly out of habit.
You take an inquisitive look at Gregory, the man that spent three more years than his six in the guild.
You put put your suit of iron armor on, strapping each piece with care and adjusting the helm on your short, black, and slightly spiky hair. You grin as you put your shield behind your back and you spin your sword a few times before sheathing it. You finally take the knife and put it by your belt.

“How do I look Stalith? Ready to go look for some trouble?”
“I’m not sure. It depends on your idea of trouble, but I do think we should get some supplies before departing to look for any adventure. And I hope you can lend me that book for some time, I could use some training.”

“Huh. Well, I guess we should see if they’re giving out free supplies like food, water, medical stuff, and other stuff like that…”
Gregory looks at his chest and takes out a piece of paper.
You do the same.

Stock up food and booze, look for food that will remain edible for a long time.

technology is like current DF, but with mechanisms in small objects, like your gauntlets.
Magic is part of artifacts, and necromancers. Good areas have small amounts of it so animals won't attack you, and evil areas have large amounts of it.
You can cast spells that need to be created with an empty scroll - writing on that scroll will make a spell, if successful, and the scroll will disappear either way.
Mana is an important part of spells; it's used with every single spell.
