So, it's been over a week, and I was swamped with work so I forgot to update.

I only lost two pounds over this week; I've read that a loss that gradual is the best way to go if you intend to keep it off, but still...I've got an entire year ahead of me at that rate before I'm near my ideal weight.

Going to the gym is proving to be much easier than I thought: I already notice a big improvement in my stamina, and I really am enjoying the exercise.  I didn't think I would, that I would view it as a chore I "had" to do each day, but I find that I'm really enjoying how I feel afterwards.  Even the exercise itself isn't that unpleasant.

Snacking is much, much harder.  Being surrounded by food, BAD food, all day makes it hard not to give in to temptation.  I have been, a lot.  I'm actually pleased I lost weight at all, truthfully.  I need to have more willpower at work.

I'd love to be able to go to the gym every day, but they don't have child care.

2 pounds per week is actually the number I've heard cited as the maximum 'safe' amount per week. If you keep that up for a year, that's 104 pounds. It'd only take me about 14 months to disappear at that rate!

In short: congratulations on week 1. Stay strong.

This has all been quite interesting, and I'm extremely happy to see so many people lending you support. I lend you my support, as well.

The thing that is truly KILLER is snacking; you already seem to realize this. But why is this the case, aside from the obvious extra food intake? Because usually the body gets used to it and comes to expect it. The best way to combat snacking is by fighting boredom. Don't be bored. I know it sounds stupid, but it's true. How you do that is up to you.

If you are a die-hard snacker, then just do what most healthy athletes do... Eat six small meals everyday instead of three big ones. It lets your body process the food much, much more efficiently, leading to less overall fatty weight gain. Really, give it a try.

Another killer is soda. If you find yourself drinking a lot of it, just cut it from your diet altogether. It won't be pleasant if your body relies on it to function, but the beautiful thing about the human body is that eventually it relearns how it used to function before you inundated it with chemicals. The same obviously goes for things like beer and coffee. Just something to think about--what it comes down to is how badly you want to do this.
