Can a torn artery heal?
« on: July 30, 2012, 07:44:07 pm »

My poor adventurer is kind of stuck in a cave for the time being, with a torn artery.  He can not stand.  I'm wondering - will this ever heal?

Thanks.

Damn.  Yeah I kind of figured he was crippled for life.

It's ok, I hadn't invested much time in him anyway.

A torn artery isnt much of a problem, it will leave a scar sure, but it shouldnt cripple your adventurer.

Now a severed motor nerve, THAT is nasty nasty stuff.

It will heal if you don't bleed out (IIRC).

arteries aren't anything to worrie about , unless you are pale and it doesn't stop bleeding , just fast travel and you will heal anything , except motor nerves .

And you can make those heal too, just add [HEALING_RATE:(number, higher = slower)] to the tissue definition.

Motor damage is the number two reason rocks are some of the awesomist weapons in the game.  Num 1 is brain tearing.

I tried boning knives, but for some reason it didn't work... instead it was quite painful.

Sharp rocks inflict crazy amounts of nerve damage in addition to shattering skulls. *Sharp* Chalk forever!

Nope--severing makes things completely unable to heal no matter what.

Motor and sensory nerves are hardcoded in their behaviour, and 'activated' by the [HAS_NERVES] tag. The nervous tissue in the tissue file is for spinal tissue.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Just because nobody's pointed this out;

You can be restored completely if you become a Werebeast. At the full moon when you transform you'll get an uninjured beast body, and when you toggle back you'll be just dandy-- lost limbs rejuvenated et ketra.
