Don't forget our propensity to conquer countries by having a flag.
Nah, the flag was great but it was the maps that sealed the deal. No point planting a flag if some Dutchman or Frenchman's just going to show up later with their own flag, the cartographers were King.
Actually, I reckon it was more to do with the armies. Whoever showed up with the better fighting force was usually the one to get to plant their flag.

A wild Ireland appears!

Oh, I wasn't saying it was realistic, I was using it as an example of "something that was technically possible but not actually going to happen".

They responded by saying the constitution wouldn't let repeal it. Which is just like - do you even know what amendments are?

With enough support, you can repeal everything.

Or you can do it sneakishly and attempt to bypass it.

Doing things sneakily is never a nice way to go about doing things of course.

"That was different, the second amendment is special."

They are technically correct, but only in the sense that no part of the Constitution can be repealed in the way a law is repealed. All parts of the Constitution are permanent, it's just that newer ones override older ones.

Overriding a previous amendment with a new amendment is specifically referred to as "repealing", IN the constitution. No, it's not the same way a law can be repealed, but it can definitely be repealed.

No... it's... it's not even semantics. It is literally using the language used by the thing we are talking about... what?

The French are actually badass fighters. Napoleon kicked most of Europe six ways from home solo, the French fought off an invasion in WWI and in WWII still had time to maintain the resistance. They currently have over 300 nuclear warheads and spend the third most on their army in the world. The Canadians... is another story altogether.

Canada can at least claim to have been involved in WW2 almost from the start, unlike a certain other North American country I could mention :)

Perhaps if certain vengeful European countries had listened to a certain North American President's treaty proposal, WW2 might not have happened in the first place.

The Canadians are one of the few countries who can say they not only defeated the USA in a way, but marched to their capital and burned it down.

It probably would have, but in another shape or form. The Versaille treaty pretty much ensured a war in Germany, but even without that the situation was dangerous in many countries.

Well they burned down our capital first. It's only fair after all.

EDIT: Wow, posted at the exact same time as Ebbor.
