I am willing to accept the concept, if not the excessive application, of "white privilege", "male privilege", and to a lesser extent "straight privilege". Any other "privilege" is totally dubious.

Note that I'm not getting paid for this email correspondence, it's just a fellow online class student who found out I'm a computer guy.

I think the terrible implication is that people decided that they needed a word that they could make them sound oppressed or marginalized. I think the regular speak word for it is just romantic.

That's not it exactly. The "demisexuals" claim to be people who feel romantic attachment based upon emotional bonds alone, rather than gender or physical standards. To me that just sounds like bisexuals who are emotionally invested rather than a specific sexuality.

So yes, the terrible implication is that they're trying to seem oppressed. The Tumblr social justice community's entire problem is that they're an out of control oppression olympics which also has mentally ill people in the running.

I would contend that it's in fact worse than 4chan. 90% of 4chan isn't /b/ which is where the shit is. As far as I can tell, 90% of tumblr IS social justice and its friends.

It's hard to say. /b/ is for the most part self-contained. The tumblr social justice people invite themselves in. Everywhere. They don't even stay on tumblr. I'm expecting one to be alerted by a spider bot and burst into Bay 12 any second now.
