Somehow I doubt they eat the diamonds... it's not like you can chew on them; swallowing them will be unpleasant, and so will expelling them eventually if they aren't digested in the strong acid of the stomach. If someone served me a desert with gold leaf and diamond, I'd eat the gold leaf but keep the diamond in my pocket

Well, gold leaf is relatively cheap compared to diamond. You only need a single gram of it to produce a square meter of it. xD
If you scroll down to the very bottom, there are two $50 desserts that have gold in them. $50 is a lot more stomachable a price than the extravagant $15000 deserts up above.

I mean, a sword is just an arrangement of iron atoms. You melt a sword down, you get a puddle of iron, not "liquid sword". Doesn't make the sword any less meltable.

Same for diamond.

Diamonds burn at temperatures of I-can't-be-bothered-to-look-it-up but under enough pressure and heat they have been liquified. Also, artificial diamonds can be created by compressing carbon sufficiently.
