That actually sounds a lot like drama class...
I speak from experience when I say that this is EXACTLY drama class.

My personal hope is that everyone goes to Heaven, and then has to deal with the fact that everyone else is there.

This is the exact opposite of mine. Also, 'whole rant about heaven is a state of being and not a place'. I've talked about this before. I'm an atheist, but Heaven and Hell aren't places. They're the definition of being with or without God in your life. >.>

But I want an afterlife, damn it! :D The idea of nothing after death is horrible.  :'(

And back on topic: when my parents decided to move to Hawaii the response of my grandmother, who lives in Michigan, was "But darling, it's sooo bleak there!"

In classical religion the Gods were powerful - but they never knew what it was like to be mortal, to die. This made mankind something different.

In any case I view things more differently.

If we take our universe and observe it: It is in three dimensions.
We have our z axis, y axis and our x axis.
What if we looked at a single segment of our universe, ignoring an entire axis as it progressed forwards?

Essentially what I'm getting at is time. If time is our fourth axis of the universe, past, present and the future are really not all that separate. We do not look at a single slice of a cube and deny its previous and progressing segments - the entire cube is constant, even if we can only see one segment at a time.
In this way you will always exist in the same existence. Alive, dead, even before you truly physically manifest - you are there as a possibility. The same eternal existence we live and die the same time every time. So enjoy life! It's joy well found.

Before you were born, for millions of years, you were in a state pretty much identical to death.
Was it really that horrible?

No, but only because I had no other alternatives. Now I do, and I'd rather not change that.

 ???
But... You don't. There are no alternatives, no other options.
Reality doesn't shape itself to your will. It doesn't matter how much you with and hope and believe in an after life, that won't make one appear. In a similar way, if there is one, then it doesn't matter how many people don't believe in it, it will not just go away. There is no choice to be made, you get the hand you are dealt.

Conan was too awesome to have ever actually existed in our universe. The Barbarian, that is, not the Late Night Television Host.

I think he meant something like, before he was born he didn't know what is was like to be alive.
And now that he is alive he would rather continue that way.

But death is the most amazing mystery you will ever encounter. o.O Why would you want to deny yourself that?

Because I don't like surprises. When I was little I'd open my Christmas presents on the 22nd or so because I couldn't stand the suspense.

... Studies have shown that the most fun part of vacation is not vacation itself, but the three weeks prior to vacation. Your happiness levels are at maximum for those three weeks, but vacation is more often more stressful than normal life, and generally leaves you in a stressed state.
Suspense is the best part of anything. o.O Your brain chemicals say so.

That is pretty solid evidence that people just suck at logistics.
I always have good holidays, because I always figure out how I'm going to make everything work to have as little fuckery before hand.
