That... doesn't make any sense...

"We get a lot of photons because we're not special!" is what you basically just said. :P

Anyway, I already got the answer, it doesn't matter.

No, I just said that we don't get a lot less :P Your statement relies on there being a lot fewer photons than there are out there.

As I understand it, photons like electrons behave as both particles and waves, which is to say that they've both a "solid" ping pong ball type thing, and also a field of energy moving through the universe at crazy speeds.

All matter behaves likes waves! At least according to de Broglie. I think the equation was lamba = h/p...

I'll pick up _____.

> your grandmother
> the tab
> the door

.. So why is 'the door' incorrect? :<

You can't pick up a door without ripping it out of the frame.

The other two have connotations other than "lift". Picking up your grandmother can mean that I give her a lift in my car, or meet her at an airport/train station. Picking up the tab means that you're offering to pay a bill.

I can't think of a different meaning for "pick up a door" other than physically lifting it.

None are grammatically incorrect D:

Picking up my grandmother is the same usage as picking up a door (from, say, a repair shop). :/
Also, 'to pick up [person]' doesn't mean lifting...
Also, you can pick up a door, like from the floor :I

To pick up [person] can mean lifting >_>

Like. You can pick a person up. From the floor or bed or whatever. In approaching-regular use you might use it in relation to small kids or something. Probably not a common turn of phrase, but I'm relatively certain I've both used it and heard it used.

Sky: possibly language barrier here, but to 'give someone a lift' doesn't mean one picks them up off the ground, it means one goes to wherever they are and then gives them a ride (usually in a car)

... you can actually say "give me a lift" and mean "pick me up". Usually with a cuphold or something. "Give me a boost" is (considerably) more common for that sort of thing, but the sentence parses, and I've heard it used before.

E: Give, not gift. Goddamnit brain.

I know. :/ What I mean is that it's perfectly possible for me to pick up a door. It's the literal meaning of 'pick', but why would it be incorrect? D:

Bleh. Blame me typing from an iphone and thus not checking my posts for logic. :/
