Poll

What's your worst gaming OCD/compulsion/disorder/etc.? (poll results reset)

Looting OCD (Every place must be cleaned out)
- 9 (8.6%)
Categorical OCD (Everything MUST be sorted out)
- 1 (1%)
Tetris Disorder (Everything must fit together/maximize space efficiency)
- 2 (1.9%)
Ammo Hoarder (From common to rare ammo and loot; you always have more than you need. You'll risk getting shot if it means you can salvage the bullet you were shot by, by carrying a crowbar with you)
- 14 (13.3%)
Mr. Nice Guy (AKA- Rick Astley/Earl Hickey Disorder. We must be nice no matter what. Karma, after all, is key)
- 10 (9.5%)
Diplomatic Bi-Polarity (I'm the good guy, but I'm going to be a dick so I can infiltrate the enemy. But I'm still the good guy. And yes, that is your prized signature baseball bat I'm wielding.)
- 7 (6.7%)
Micro Your Macro (Hyper-Attention Disorder. The macrocosm of your game must have every cell micro-managed. Think Master of Orion 3 or SimCity, and how it's structured.)
- 0 (0%)
Macro Your Micro (ADHD where focus is concerned. All your micromanagement commands, or shortcuts are macro'd. Nothing is left of your keyboard that won't accidentally set your attention elsewhere. Let's hope you have a very good memory. Simulators/RTS)
- 0 (0%)
Symmetry OCD (AKA- Mirror-Minded Disorder. Everything must reflect upon each side the same way, or else, it just don't look right)
- 6 (5.7%)
QS/QL Seizures (You cannot move 3 yards without hitting F5 (common quicksave button), and you can't suffer the slightest flaw without quickloading (usually F7 or F8))
- 6 (5.7%)
Character Hypochondria (You play like a Level 1 Squishy Wizard, even though you're a Level 60+ God.)
- 0 (0%)
Frequently Asking Questions (AKA- Kiddy Questioner Disorder. You can never play a game without a FAQ or guide, or even youtube by your side.)
- 0 (0%)
Magellen-Minded Disorder ("If your quarry goes to ground, leave no ground to go to.". Explore every square inch of the world for any reason.)
- 6 (5.7%)
Curious George Disorder (What's this button do? Or that one? Or that one? This big red one is really interesting though.)
- 1 (1%)
Storyteller's Dilemma (You can't have too many breaks, or too great a gap between sessions of gaming, otherwise you'll either lose track or interest in the game you were so immersed in. Sucks worst if you're near the end.)
- 14 (13.3%)
Gaming Over-Achiever (I want to see it all!! I want to beat them all!! I want to collect them all!! And everyone and everything is maxed out.)
- 3 (2.9%)
Gaming Masochism ("I drink Sriracha sauce with mace to spice it up." can summarize the attitude of this sick, twisted breed of gamers.)
- 7 (6.7%)
Incompletionist (You can only retry so many times; you can only endure so much; But eventually, you just have to cut your losses and let the game go.)
- 3 (2.9%)
Scout's Pride (AKA- Reloader's Plight. "ALWAYS be prepared." You can't leave cover without reloading, regardless how much ammo you spent in your 1 clip/magazine out of many.)
- 7 (6.7%)
Cloud's Strife (AKA- Item Hoarding. You won't spare even a light healing potion, just in case you need to spend 5 of them to match that mega you also have 20 of)
- 9 (8.6%)

I have this problem when playing certain RPGs that I am a compulsive little character- and party-minmaxer whenever there are skill points to be distributed, in particular when you can't reset that skilling. If that incident is near the beginning, I tend to just restart the game. Otherwise - I am looking at you, Etrian Odyssey - I create a new character of the same class (or let him rest), level gap be damned. In EtOd, my party composition is also always in flux, switching out that class for that one over and over. The only constant is the Hexer.
I also, in other games, sit in character creation and/or skilling screen for hours trying to figure out just what the hell I want to do, then I usually start and abandon like five different characters in the space of an hour of playtime or less. I also take like five to ten minutes for choosing a name and at least thirty minutes more if there is some way to customize your character's looks. All of that amounts to a staggeringly inefficient experience but I still love RPGs. Particularily Etrian Odyssey. Hell, the RtD I run currently is inspired by it hardcore.

Then there's this little thing that I sometimes nearly finish a game, then suddenly minutes before the final boss fight or what have you I drop it for no real reason and never play it again. This happens more with Animes, though (and there, halfway through/after six episodes).

I used to save up consumables lots but have become more lenient with it - as long as I get through by them it's fine. Before using consumables I can't get another time, though, I tend to try the other options first. And in Pokemon, using them in battles is dishonorable anyway.

I'm bad for looting, ammo hoarding, quicksaving every other step (although I never quickload much), reloading too often (100 round magazine? Fired 6 bullets? RELOAD) and hoarding healing items etc. In fact, I've generally started simply selling such items because I don't use them.

Scouts pride for FPS, symmetry for building games.

"Agh, i need to move a torch to make a extra door here so its in the middle, so that means that i must make another torch so i can put a torch on both sides of the door!"

Also common to minecraft:

"odd or even house size?"

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Why is this not multiple choice?
Also... Ammo hoarder should also count as MP Hoarder...  and yea, they all really look the same... the ones relating to items anyways.

... All of the above?

Edit: no, that's not true. I lack Diplomatic Bipolarity, Symmetry OCD, MacroTheMicro and Categorical OCD. But every single other one I'm guilty of.

I'm surprised that you lack the symmetry one. I think most people have that one.

so, playing SH2, I will leave over 300 archers in a wall of towers (so laddermen can't attack) around my entire base.  There are no sieges on the map that I will have to worry about, and all additional archers keep being added to the wall.  I only attack with archers, ballistas, or if I need melee, militia.  Rations are always set to double and I always have at least +5 spare happiness, and I don't spend any of my 20k gold that I aquire.  Many other games have many of the partial effects I have in this one.   Every tower I build must also have a mounted ballista on it, unless it is not large enough to hold one.  The only things I don't do in SH2 is worry about symmetry and quicksaves.

Sounds about how I play it, or did anyway.  I play SH1 or Crusader much more frequently, and it's crossbowman spam in the towers + ballista.  I don't build towers too small for ballistae.

Which reminds me of another habit I have with most games: I try my darndest to keep every little mook alive.  I guess that's sort of Character Hypochondria, in a way, if I'm reading it right.  I do terribly in RTS games against players because of this.  I turtle to keep my soldiers alive and safe, and only attack when I have overwhelming force that I know will defeat the enemy with few if any casualties.  Works well against computer opponents, in pretty much every game, but terribly against humans.

You can imagine that this makes DF hard for me to play sometimes.  The moment I name a dwarf I don't want him to die.  :(

Looting: I only take what is valuable. This still bites me in the ass in Skyrim. I hate being overencumbered.
Categorizing: Nope.
Tetris: Maybe?
Ammo Hoarding: Yep. Ammo, crafting supplies, and technically this is just like Cloud's Strife.
Nice Guy: YES. Except for guards. Your only two voices gets REALLY annoying. *thunk* *STTCH* Now give me my arrow back.
Diplomatic: Hell no.
Micro and macro: No?
Symmetry: I've been trying to break this.
Quicksave: No.
Hypochondria: ...
                    no...
I treat my level one squishy thief in platemail as a level 413 god of stealth.
FAQ: No.
Magellan: Yep.
Curious George: "What's this tripwire do?" *Rocks fall on bandit in front of me* "Huh."
Storyteller: Nah.
Over-achiever: Maybe.
Masochism: Nope. I play DF because it ISN'T hard.
Incompletionist: No.
Scout's pride: Unfortunately, no.
Cloud's Strife: Yep. Except for when I need those potions.

Stack-starter syndrome (/slot filler syndrome): If you have an inventory and/or stash and some type of item in it stacks, you can NEVER EVER AT ALL use the last item in a stack. Then you wouldn't have a stack, and something else would get placed there and look all weird. Subset of organization OCD.

Backseat driver: When watching someone else game, and they do something I wouldn't (even if it's completely valid game-wise), it makes my skin crawl and I get all cranky. I've been getting better at this, but it's a long road to recovery.

Meta-completionist: Like completionist, but worse. If there are multiple but sane numbers of classes, I must finish the game as every one. Play through Mass effect 1, 2, and 3 as all 6 classes? Yes, I did. Even as an Adept in ME2, on insanity. Because i hate myself. Didn't make it through all 50-whatever classes in Titan Quest, though.

Frequently Asking Questions: This ruins the game for me. 90% of my joy in gaming comes from figuring out things on my own. However, most of my friends game based on my recommendations, and one of them does this constantly. I just can't comprehend how it could be fun to play like this.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Yeah, I like to interact with things, so Curious George to an extent, and in building games I really like things symetrical, but mostly I'm a hoarder. I don't mind USING things, but dropping them is unthinkable.

Yay! -1 Noob weapon of Worthlessness. Not great loot, but more loot! Inventory full!? Just... leave it there? Where some monster will get it? Where nobody will benefit from it? Nooo! I wonder if I can scrap this into parts that stack with what I have on me?

I tried repairing the poll, but no luck. I don't understand how I can't adjust it as I update it. I mean, I can only add and subtract from the list, reset count to 0, and even end it, but nothing else. It's actually kinda annoying with an ever-evolving list like this. I initially had the option highlighted that you can change your answers, and I don't see that working. ???
