It's a bit late for me... I think.

I could do either of those times, as long as we're talking Saturday or Sunday.

1:00 or 0:00 GMT on Sundays I think I can do, but 2:00 might be pushing it. We'll see.

I say the GM's set a time that's good for them and we see who shows up...

Makes a certain amount of sense. After all, we could have a dozen players, but without a DM nothing will get done :P

I'm good for any time, basically.

Also, how would I call upon my character's stats in macros?

[soft blush] Thank you. It's been a few years, since 3.0 actually, but yes, once, and perhaps again. :)

I'm good for any time before 6:00 GMT. After that, I'm technically supposed to be asleep.

Also, the first session I attend is likely going to include silly amounts of 'what does this button do' on my part.

Don't worry, Maptool is relatively point and click/chat-box focused. But still.

It'll become pretty much second-nature after a while :)

Segue here: does everyone else have as much trouble as I do creating a background for their characters? All I've got is
  • He is a bastard (legal definition)
  • He tells jokes
  • He has red hair
  • He has an owl
...and that's about it. I think part of the problem is that I'm kinda worried about stepping on the DM's toes too much or inadvertently break some rules of the world (one reason for my question about monocles).

Just think of a valid reason that he would become what class he is, and work your way back, all the way to birth. Add more details as necessary.

IDK what kind of rules Scelly wants, but as far as the setting goes, feel free to come up with whatever you want that is reasonable.

I don't think the world really has too many character related rules. No gunpowder? Um. You can't have your guy kill dragons in his backstory? No complex mechanical devices?
