oh
cool then. didn't know that was possible.
can we see them in action? ingame?
Haven't worked that out yet, graphics are hard :P

I figured out the tile x and y and turned graphics on but they don't load. Should your graphics .txt file go in the raw -> graphics folder?

IN OTHER PRETENTIOUS AND HIPSTERY ASCII NEWS

I present the Phat 256x128!
Now, some of you may be thinking "You got those backwards, you idiot! The x dimension comes first!"

Well, this is an ASCII set wider than it is tall. You can even tag it "more to love" in all your MySpace photos, if you aren't already texting and drinking coffee while driving. Now, here's my explanation that almost makes this set sound logical:
  • Your monitor is wider than it is tall.
  • This tileset is wider than it is tall.
Enough of that, here's a dwarven sweatshop!

That tearing noise is your eyes trying to look clockwise.

It almost looks like 3/4ths view, like from some of the Zelda games...

This is adorable.

Could you possibly do goblins, elves, and humans too? I imagine that goblins would be little frowny faces with angry eyebrows, not sure about elves and humans.

Coincidentally, I too have crafted a 6x6 tileset. Yours looks very good, too. Also, the handdrawn ones looks very elegant. I'd use it, but I prefer a more rigid tileset.

Pfft not NES style, C64 style plus it's lovely colour palette :D

And if you wanted NES/RPG style the stunning Jolly Bastion set may tickle your fancy: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=104261.0

I never said the picture was NES, I just said it inspired me to tell someone with graphical talent to make a NES style set

I think I saw that on the wiki! I like the walls.

SPOILER ALERT: I'm not actually graphically talented which is why I went with extremely plain ASCII :P

Anyway, here are vague civ graphics, using the NORMAL, ADVENTURER, GUARD, ROYAL GUARD, ANIMATED and GHOST template that graphics_example.txt told me about. It's probably not possible to get a kobold adventurer in vanilla but if you use the bodyswap command in DFhack then you get a slightly different kobold sprite :D

Same deal with the ROYALGUARDs, I don't know if they even exist but if they do then I'm ready for them :P

They remind me of Shook's drawing from the DyA thread.
Good show!
