really long game loading time.

hello
I started to play DF recently and my problem with my 60 dwarf fortress is that the game takes very long to load. should I say 1-2h.
I would appreciate for any advice.

Are you playing the game from a flash drive?
How much memory do you have?

I have a 4GB RAM pc (2 years old) where most is available. I don't know what a flash drive is. I downloaded the game from http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2431 (Phoebus' Graphic Set).

The game usually is ready to play when I hit tons of letters from of me getting tired of waiting.

uhm... the game is usually paused right after loading and can be resumed by hitting the space bar (which you might accidentally hit while typing your "tons of letters"). Are you sure that this is not the issue you're facing?

What do you see during those "loading times"? Just a blank, black screen or the actual playing area with your fortress, the dwarves, the menu etc.?

I see a black screen and text that it's loading. no fortress or menu.

This is strange. If it were me, I would turn off temp and weather and cave-ins in the .init files and try loading and see if there is a difference. I know the cave-in bug was fixed but this is the only thing I can think of. Save might be corrupted. I know it sucks, but it's happened to me a couple times on some forts that were really booming.  Now I back up saves every few days.

My guess is that you're trying to run it out of the ZIP file instead of extracting the contents of the ZIP file into an actual folder.

Since I only had 1 word. It did not looked like a list. So I assumed it was a loading screen.
