cutting minerals in jeweler's shop. bug or feature?
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:22:51 am »

I suddenly noticed that I can cut/encrust magnetite, limonite and bitumous coal in jeweler's shop. is it a known bug or a new feature?

As soon as Urist McDoctor gets back from partying, drinking, sleeping, and hauling magnetite, I'm sure he'll be able to look at that injury for you!

It's a feature - take a look at the entity raws and you see that specific shapes are permitted for cut stones and cut gems.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yep; there was a lot of discussion when it was first discovered.  Apparently cutting/polishing stones isn't that absurd in real life, with some notable exceptions that we can't avoid yet (like chalk furniture, some stones just shouldn't be useable for certain applications).

Yes.   ;D

"I have been criticaly injured and have a hard time breathing, am I going to die or is everything going to be ok?"

"Yes. ;D"

my favorite (has actually happened) was as follows:
"Ok, you know the way from here, do I go left or right?"
"Yes."

shouldn't be a surprise, since that person also always answers questions like "do you want tea or coffee" with "yes", however, it was very annoying at that point.

Sounds like this fits in with A line from west side story I noticed while sitting in the pit orchestra: tony: "I love you"
Maria: "yes"

And another that happens a lot
"nice to meet you", "I'm good thanks"

But they make good radioactive trade items. Now cinnabar pots and lead flasks, those don't make too much sense :P

Meanwhile, i was making lead flasks for elves, but one of them was masterwork, and a military dwarf claimed it. I Think the trope for that is "Too Dumb to Live".

That's assuming dwarves don't incorperate heavy metals into their bone structures.

I hope one day more reaccions are made for special stones so mercury can be extracted from cinnabar. I mean the ancient chinese could make a lake of pure mercury, why not dwarfs? Plus that would be one more liquid to have fun with.
