It doesn't contain any magma or fire sometimes.

Searching back to 2008-2009, I found that meme was derived from multiple sources including the game Portal, the Mythbusters tv show, the old generic mad scientist meme, and various posters who wanted a place to record/share discoveries that they made about dwarf fortress. It didn't use the ‼ symbol at that time, and was mostly known as "Dwarven Science". It was more about mechanical logic and finding game exploits than fire/magma.

COUNTER DETAIL!

The use of fun has evolved on bay12.
Fun of course tends to be of the natural variety, such "as axe embedded in skull" syndrome, or misplacing the upper body. Normally on a larger scale, such as the entire fortress dying from natural causes.
fun means actual fun. Although all fun on DF is Fun, so that doesn't really count.
!!Fun!! is indeed Fun on fire, but it's symbolic of the infectious destruction of applied !!SCIENCE!!
