Retired adventurers+aging

So, if I play a fort for about 20 in-game years, will my resting adventurer grow older as well? Will he die of old age if I take too long? Any workarounds?

I believe he won't actually die of old age until you play him again, in which case you may take one step before falling over dead. Though, I don't think this has ever been tested. Can adventurers even die of old age?

There doesn't seem to be any reason why they wouldn't. Sometimes bandits die of old age, so I'd assume you can do so as well. But jdf318 is correct that you likely won't die until you play again and take a turn, similarly to how bandits sometimes die right after ambushing you.

Yes. Although most adventurers tend to have an 80 year shelf life if they manage to stay out of harms way, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you go around enough hamlets and towns though, you can see where people have literally just died of old age.

Maybe I'll necro him up before playing fortress mode again. My forts tend to last for decades.
