Hey all,

Is it possible to tame war cave dragons?  I have a dozen or so trapped in cages (from invasions).  I checked Z menu to see how I assign a trainer to him, though I don't see the option anywhere.

(Seems today I'm having all sorts of new fun with traps that I didn't have before, heh)

I know that most animals brought in goblin invasions, may be trained, but soon after training they revert to there wild state and try to find a tasty dwarf too eat.  Though I haven't tried to train goblin pets since 34.01.

I really want a Cave Dragon army.  They keep bringing me more but so far I can't see any way to set a trainer to them

But... I had goblin invasions on war cave dragons, giant toads and voracious cave crawlers, I can tame the toads and cave crawlers but not the war cave dragons, so maybe its because the cave dragons are trained for war by a non-dwarf civ?

Maybe this works?
1:Mod their raws and give them the [CHILD] tag
2: Tame them
3: before they revert, pit them in a room with nest boxes.
4: when the eggs hatch, take the new ones and train them.

trained invader mounts will still be hostile to dwarves and if you kill them while they are trained not wild , it will cause loyalty cascade.

i guess the invader animals will kill their children before you can tame them , because of the bug that makes invader mounts kill their children.

Yeap, still gives xp to both of them(Strength and Endurance) just tested it w/ x5 the xp rate and fastdwarf 1 and some screw pumps on 3 different dwarfs.

If they're caged, though, you can sell 'em off for a cool 10000 dwarfbucks each. (no typo, that's ten thousand)

If your world is less than 500 years old they'll probably be too small to be worth butchering.

What you can do, though, is to impregnate them and then put them in a cage if they aren't egg-layers. Then you just un-assign the children from the cage without removing the parents, and you have a group of young animals that can be taken straight from enemy to 'domesticated' if you train them quick enough.

If your world is less than 500 years old they'll probably be too small to be worth butchering.

I will have to disagree, at 250 years old they are giving me roughly a 120 meat 50 fat, with these alone, I am making cave dragon roasts worth 50,000 dwarf bucks.  Not to mention all the internal organs, bones, teeth, you get as well.  They are only worth selling whole if your too lazy to butcher them.  Only good war dragon is a war dragon with an apple in its mouth keeping your dwarves ecstatic for the next 30 years.
