"Hello! What have you all been up to?"

Start reading that book I found.

(Cue Zalgus accidentally summoning some monstrosity from the book as he says "Hello". :P))

"There's my funny necroman! Knew we'd see each other soon!"

"Your call Rorgrim. We've done what we had to do. Fruits for all, if you want. Where was our skeletal friend?"

Rorrim - Give Zalgus a...'Russian Haircut' with hands as a friendly sign of greeting.

Baradine shall share the dryadfruit, and try to look for any metal shards for future use in alloy-making on that bronze sword!

You say fruit, I say potato.
Lacking any sort of knowledge of something called Russia, you give Zalgus a mercenary greeting involving your hands and his scalp. He doesn't seem to appreciate it.

Baradine gives Zalgus a blue dryadfruit, explaining that it recovers magical energy. He seems to appreciate it more that your greeting. He then gives you and Rorgrin two of the green fruits, Zalgus one, and keeps one of each for himself.

Metal? (1d6=3)
The only metal Baradine sees right now are the weapons of his companions. He is quite certain they would not appreciate them being melted down.

"Hello! What have you all been up to?"

Start reading that book I found.
You open the book to the first page. It reads "Hello, Zalgus."
Wha? (1d6=1)
You drop the book in shock. The page that ends up visible says "That easily scared, are you?"

----

"Yes... I suppose." Trael glanced between the two doors for a moment before stepping towards the closed one, "Just so long as it leads somewhere..."

>Try the closed door!

>If it cannot be opened, turn and go through the other one! Look for a passage deeper into the Keep.

Open the door (1d6=6)
You are wise to the ways of the doors in this place now, and yank the closed door upwards. It ascends more easily than you expected, though, and you end up dangling from the now-open door.

Zalgus attempted to de-ruffle himself, stooping down to recover the book.

"Ahem, merely startled at sudden magical activity from a book I thought harmless. In any case, might I ask who or what you are?"

Talk to the book.

"Why are you talking at a book?"

Give Baradine his damn potatoes back.

"We are all still mostly sane right?"

"Were I alive, this would doubtless be quite embarassing," Trael muttered as he dropped carefully down from the raised door, "It's amazing what death does to one's self-confidence."

>Drop carefully down from the door, then press onwards. Be careful, as anything in this room has had ample time to ready itself for my intrusion.

"Well, because the book is talking back, of course.

And yes, we're all still sane. Or at least I'm still sane, just met the lot of you again. All this relative to delving into the Keep of Bloodstained Dreams by choice, of course.

Oh! Had a nice chat with Prodith, also. Did you know she's going for the standard wait around and then conduct a ritual to enslave the world approach?"

"Thanks for my potatoes...Rorgrin. Zalgus, hows about I team up with you at the moment? You've been pretty lonesome."

"We're splitting up? Fine, I'm going with the hammerman if he accepts...Weren't there five of us?"

Baradine: Tag along with IronyOwl!

Rorrim: Follow Loud Whispers.

Both: Examine the room and its exits.

Zalgus attempted to de-ruffle himself, stooping down to recover the book.

"Ahem, merely startled at sudden magical activity from a book I thought harmless. In any case, might I ask who or what you are?"

Talk to the book.
Words and letters disappear, appear, and rearrange themselves.
"For clarity of grammar, think of me as an avatar of the entity Prodith called the Ashen One. It is not a truly accurate description or even approximation, but it suffices for our purposes."

"Why are you talking at a book?"

Give Baradine his damn potatoes back.

"We are all still mostly sane right?"

You drop the fruity taters back into Baradine's hands as if they were hot potatoes, wondering about the sanity of those people around you. You do not come to favorable conclusions.

The two of you kind of shuffle about, attaching yourself to your chosen companions. The ice room is now fully melted again and the staircase downwards is free. There is also the door to the empty room and thus to the lightning trap room and the garden, a corridor winding upwards, and a closed stone door with a... hum. It kind of looks like a... moonlit landscape?

----

"Were I alive, this would doubtless be quite embarassing," Trael muttered as he dropped carefully down from the raised door, "It's amazing what death does to one's self-confidence."

>Drop carefully down from the door, then press onwards. Be careful, as anything in this room has had ample time to ready itself for my intrusion.
Drop down, move carefully (1d6=3, 1d6=5)
You drop down by simply letting go, and you land in a undignified heap. After straightening yourself up, you sneak into the room. A massive throne stands in the middle, occupied by a figure just as massive, probably thrice your height if it were standing up. It doesn't look as if it would stand up any time soon, though - it is just as skeletal as you are, but much less animated, or so it seems. Next to the throne stands a large harp that occasionally plays a tune all by itself. As you move closer, you notice that a winged humanoid in a toga sits by, occasionally fading in and out.

The skeleton frowned at the odd sight before him. He smelled a metaphorical rat, if said rat was the size of a wagon with a bad case of explosive flatulence.
"No good can come of this," he muttered softly, keeping his gaze on the strange figures, "Watch them, Larry."

>Tell Larry to keep an eye(?) on the ghostly winged figure, then look around for any other exits.

>If there are none, or if I would have to pass/near the throne to reach them, approach cautiously with my sword at the ready and ask, loudly, "Who are you, and which way leads deeper within this fort?"

>Then, as soon as one of them starts up with the annoying talking the inhabitants of this keep seem so fond of, cue a two-handed greatsword strike to the face. Teach them to waste my precious time with their yammering! I'm in a hurry damnit!

Agreed.

"I see! So, avatar of the Ashen One- er, is there a simpler name I could call you by? Ah, but what is your purpose in being a living book, anyway?"

Try to open moonlit landscape door.

Exits? (1d6=6)
You look around, and realize that there is a door in the throne, right between the skeletal legs of the giant. You approach, ready to cut the face of anything that would dare speak, whether to you or just generally. No one does, even as you ask their nature. Neither the skeleton nor the winged ghost even seem to acknowledge your presence, even. Good.

Try to open moonlit landscape door.
"Take your pick, really. We've been called many names. As for my nature, it helps me not being constrained by page count as much as I would be otherwise, allows me to communicate with those who could prove useful, and dissuade those who would be hamful."

The four of you get the door open with no problem, entering a small room with several pictures and a gray canvas hanging from the wall.

Notice something? (1d6=1, 1d6=3, 1d6+1=3, 1d6=3)

Odd. A simple gray canvas?
