Just found out why stuff is cheep... When you die you lose it.... Shit
That's one of the draws of the game, it encourages a lot more caution and tactical thinking.
It's always bugged me in shooters, things like 'supressive fire' and the like really don't work when there is no sense of danger.

Can you loot your kills? Or do their items just vaporize?

This is a cool idea but... I still cannot fathom why this is a PS3 exclusive. I like EVE and I like the idea of dust, but I don't have a PS3 and now is not the time to get one for me.

Probably cause Xbox 360/Microsoft will never allow connecting Xbox live games with something out of network...
PC already has EVE?
Sony was very willing to work with EVE over it?

AFAIK, this seems to be what I think was thought:
Xbox is absurd.
Wii is...honestly not great, unless you wanted decent nintendo stuff, and a few other exceptions.
PS3 could be possible.
or you have a PC game, that links to another PC game. Sounds kinda silly.

Sony said "hey we need more PS3 exclusive shooters, drop the other platforms and we'll give you bag of cash!"

...Maybe.

IIRC, they didn't want to risk splitting their existing playerbase.

Also, can you play this new game in bracket mode?  Do the spreadsheets have cool lighting effects?

Isn't that kind of like EA only releasing Mass Effect games on PC because they don't want to split their FIFA playerbase though?

I dunno... Just sounds like a silly rationale to me.

Eve Online requires a steady base of subscribers to remain profitable.  If they release Dust 514 on PC they risk cannibalising their own existing playerbase, whereas releasing it on PS3 provides them with a whole heap of potential new subscribers.  I don't enjoy shooty games and Eve bores the crap outta me so I have no stake in this either way, but I'd have made the same call.

Also, comparing one off payment games with subscription based MMOs is a little apples and oranges.  Especially from a business perspective.  MMOs need to keep their players, whereas it can work in a Publishers favour to make single payment games less desirable with age.  Because then people will buy new games.
