Sadie wondered, as she did her work.
If this was a dream...she didn't want to wake up. She had found friends here. More than friends...maybe something like a family. And Aidan, more than either of those.
But, something was very wrong. She could feel it happening every minute. It wasn't as simple as pain-it was...void. Like nothingness growing within her chest, trying to consume her little spark of life.
Thump...ThumpHer body. Her real body? It was growing cold. Too much blood lost. She touched her side-where the jagged rock had cut her so badly. It was smooth and unharmed here, but in the real world...something had happened. Maybe too much damage in Daros had bled through, somehow. But it was bad.
There was a slow drumming in her head. Something very much like a heartbeat. And it was slowing down.
Thump.....ThumpShe sighed, continuing to work. One last experiment. Don't stop working. Then...
"...That happens from time to time. This world does things to you, and sometimes the daros version of your body needs a good long rest, to restable the damaged form in your homeworld..."
Rest. The Grim Chest. It was the only thing that could save her, like it had saved Seuche-too late, did she realize the reason for the Captains quick departure. Presumably, the same thing had happened to her. A sudden choice, an impossible choice. This was so unfair...
Sadie was afraid. Would she be alone in the box? Would it be like sleeping? What if the others left-would she go with them? So many questions.
Thump.......Thump
