((Sadie wrote many things in her life-and she kept most of them with her, on sheets of water resistant clay, enchanted to cast the words she wrote directly into the minds of her readers, regardless of language barriers.
She was carrying a good deal of them when she vanished.
Somewhere, in space and time, they might now float-perhaps swirling in the void between worlds, or maybe even now, the clawed black hand of creature of Daros lifts them to the light and wonders what they could mean...))
The Missing Link between Sylvus Dryadalum and Homo Aquarius
Or, 'Why are my ears pointy, mommy?' asks the Littlest Mergirl
Written by Sadie Coldshoal
One looks at our beautiful world and sees such an abundance of life! And what is life, if not constant change? Evolution to meet constant goals, survival, social, political or otherwise. Change requires us to modify not only our situation, but our point of view.
As I recently underwent a change myself, when viewing the perfectly preserved skeletal remains of a Male Adult Sylvus Dryadalum-he was carbon dated to have died sometime during the Cataclysm. The poor fellow bore little mark of injury, save for a broad head arrow wounds in his arm-and he was buried with little personal effects that survived time, save for a small flute clutched to his chest. I found myself empathizing with him, this ancient traveler. Who was he? How did he live? Did he leave someone he loved behind? I found myself wishing I could hear him play his ancient instrument, which he no doubt loved dearly enough for it to accompany him into the afterlife. It is easy for us, as Scientists, to see these people as mere bones, but I've always wanted more.
So, I looked for a link.
The Human Establishment would have us believe Homo Sapien as the progenitor species-but looking at these remains, how could I not have seen it before? The curvature of the spine, designed for arboreal locomotion. The enlarged sensory organs, particularly the advanced senses of hearing and sight. The long cloak like extension, which suggests Sylvan Elves glided like flying Squirrels from treetop to treetop on fold out wings. Even the vestigial sensor-bones, biological dead ends to what end I cannot say-though I theorize these people once possessed a 'Tremor Sense' ability, much like modern Gnomes do today...
But I digress. It's clear to me, most of these distinctive genetic markers are shared with my own race-the Merpeople! I know, shocking, but evolution requires a changing perspective, my good friends.
Yes, our spines have lengthened somewhat, to support our heavy tails during swimming-and our hearing organs, while somewhat atrophied, still function well...but when I noticed the remnant Sensor Bones, located at the base of our tails, I knew I was right. One merely has to pop open an anatomy book and look for yourself. Surely, you must draw the same conclusions.
Much more research must be done, I agree. I promise to be at the forefront.
In the end, I hope to convince you all that Sylvus Dryadalum was the race from whence my own people-and by extension, most others-rightfully sprang. I WILL prove the propagation of magic as evolutionary discourse. I'll ask you, my faithful readers, to disbelieve the various rumors spread among my detractors in the 'Blog-o-Sphere'-particularly among the Far Right Wing, who seem to think I am sort of Anti-Human Pro-Mer Speciesist, and the Left which has put forth the idea I have some sort of hatred for my own people. I do not why, but many of them still make fun of my height, which is a stable 8 feet 5 inches. Far above a Human, but almost 3 feet under the norm for Mer.
They said many unkind things, and I forgive them. Mostly. I digress.
The Questions we must ask to understand this world, as always, continue.
Perhaps this poor fellow I am studying would be happy to know I am seeking the truth for his vanquished people. Did the last Sylvan Elves slow adaption to the seas result in me and my people-a way to survive the destruction of their homes? Or, were the Merpeople result in some sort of creation-as Thonkus Bloodhammer, the Famous Orcish Archeologist theorizes, that a strain of my people were used for constructing the Sylvan Elves famous three keeled ships?
The best part of not knowing something is finding out, you know.
Until next time, Faithful readers!
Sadie sighed. She was badly wounded-but wasn't feeling much in the way of pain. It was almost as if she wouldn't really hurt until she lost all her Hearts-critical existence failure?
She asked quizzically, stowing some of them away.
....
She turned to the Elf.
