((I love it so much that you take the time to shift the token according to the player's color speech. :))

Also, loving this already. Alsoalso, thinking actions should always be bolded, just so we know.))

Aidan strode back to the group, partly in confusion and partly in wonder. He didn't know that this world employed magic fields like his own, being the dreamworld and such.

He stopped to take in the event - everyone was doing their own thing, most trying to make sense of things, and a golem and a strange dragonoid figure were busy getting acquainted in the background. This was truly a strange dream.

To make it even stranger, the cube-like object broke open and it's innards began speaking.

He waited once more for them to stop, "Err, excuse my interruption, but we all seem to be imprisoned by this fog. I'm not sure if this is a magical barrier or such, but...this is a dream, right?" The occurrence of events were too strange to even be considered a dream, for there were two things he noticed that stood out.

One, he could see his nose - a trivial concept that is mostly ignored in dreams.

Two, the symbolism on his arm did not change when he saw it once more - writing in dreams usually dispersed itself upon second or third glance.

Three, everyone seemed too authentic to doubt. Or was this a lucid dream?

He neared the young man he met earlier, along with a black hooded figure and a strange, beautiful green-eyed woman. "It doesn't look like there's any exit so I guess I'm sticking with you fine fellows for the meantime.

"Aidan Faolán, hopefully deceased."
he said as he bowed to the three with a grin. If one was to talk about one's death, then one had to insert humor in it. They were the closest ones he felt comfortable with, anyway.

He then glanced at the cube's strange box-like innards-with-eyes, "How can we disperse this fog?"

"...that's so much better! Likewise, a pleasure to meet you.

Do you prefer me to call you with your full name, half name, side name or other nonformal mammalian designation-most popular being friend, mister, sir, bro, brother, dude or man?"

She angled her head to one side, watching him with interest-as any Scientist would her subject.
He blinked twice as she finished talking. Sadie seemed to have some knowledge about his world, or the world she lived in was similar to his. He stopped being paranoid about genders and decided to set it she was a female, after all, there were no points indicating otherwise and her voice and body seemed feminine enough. The worst he could expect was being bitten.

Even sitting cross-legged, her figure still made it clear his own, which was usually considered taller than average amidst humans, was pretty lacking. Well, different species...
: "You can call me Nikolai or Nik for short." His eyes narrowed slightly as he examined her. She seemed to be having fun or at least drawing conclusions from him. "And judging from what you just told me about, you live in a world similar or just like mine. I assume your people had contact with humans before?"

He caught the elf approaching with the corner of his eye, nodding his head in acknowledgement.

"Aidan Faolán, hopefully deceased."[/color] he said as he bowed to the three with a grin. If one was to talk about one's death, then one had to insert humor in it. They were the closest ones he felt comfortable with, anyway.

"I would most assuredly hope this is not the afterlife. I have so much to do! Dying would be so tedious, don't you think?"

She took a closer look at him, eyes widening.

"Hmm, your name is not common in the modern style...and you are...an Elf, correct? It is sometimes difficult to tell, since I have only seen partial fossil records. Which is to say, you should not be here, since your people are totally extinct, circa 7.2 million years ago...how does that make you feel?"

While he was formulating a response, she reached out and touched him on the nose with her pointer finger, giggling cheerfully.

"I am now the first Mer-Researcher in my world to make actual contact with a living specimen of Silvis Dryadalum!"

"You can call me Nikolai or Nik for short." His eyes narrowed slightly as he examined her. She seemed to be having fun or at least drawing conclusions from him. "And judging from what you just told me about, you live in a world similar or just like mine. I assume your people had contact with humans before?"

She turned to 'Nik'.

"What an odd question. I was in Seattle last weekend, enjoying a screened movie-the one about the man who disguised himself as a Bat and fought criminals at night-and enjoying the stuffed Lobster Tails at a place called 'Cutters Crabhouse' afterwards. I did enjoy the univseral Mer-American discount for having declared myself a citizen of that Human country, as many of my people have.

Does that answer your question, Nik?"

Nikolai smirked. She seemed to say that as a matter of fact, but then she didn't know how his world was, and her reactions seemed to have something of a childish glee in them. Did scientists usually act that way when making a big discovery? Excluding the part of bopping the nose of the member of a long-lost civilization, of course.
: "Yes, we are from different dimensions after all. In my world, your people are nothing but a myth. Elves also only exist in fairytales and role-playing games, and there are no fossil records of any of you existing there." he shrugged, still keeping his eyes on her to see if he could learn anything. He had recently taken to use his ability of learning fast to imitate and almost instantly incorporate another person's body language and antics, usually getting them miffed in no time, which he found amusing.

"And what brought you here? I was drawn in by an underwater cave that wasn't supposed to have any current and blacked out while trying to avoid being sucked in."

"Yes, we are from different dimensions after all. In my world, your people are nothing but a myth. Elves also only exist in fairytales and role-playing games, and there are no fossil records of any of you existing there."

This revelation seemed to sadden Sadie-but her body language, while not deceptive, forced or misleading, seems to be somewhat awkward, if genuine-as if she had to practice acting out the emotions she wishes to portay. If she were a Human actress, you might consider her overly hammy. Sadie seems to be uncomfortable sitting completely still-she tends to sway gently left and right, when listening to someone, or thinking. Also, she seems to be edger closer and closer as you talk, as if unaware of the concept of 'personal space'.

"A myth? Are you quite sure? The Humans and Mer of my world had no official contact until the early 1700's, after all. Oh dear, oh my! What a sad concept. Next you will tell me you have no Orcs, Kobolds, Dwarves or Halflings?"

"And what brought you here? I was drawn in by an underwater cave that wasn't supposed to have any current and blacked out while trying to avoid being sucked in."

"Hmm, what an amazing confluence of events. I too, last remember entering an underwater cave, and I felt the same current pull me here. Since it was either daring the cave or warming the belly of a Giant Squid, I did not have much a choice!"

"In exchange for your help, I'm gonna reward you. You will be the first member of the brand new Auxiliary Exploration Koopa Troop. Which means taking orders from me. Do you understand that?"

R.E.G.I.S. looked at Bowser for a moment, then shook his head. His massive arms turn up in a very large shrug.

“I IS SORRY, BUT REGGIE ALREADY HAS DA ORDERS DAT REGGIE HAS TO FOLLOWS. DAT CERTAINLYS SOUNDS LIKE FUN, THOUGH. MEBBE DIS IS GOOD TIME FOR THE MAKINGS OF DA INTRODUCTIONS?”

Reggie’s voice lost all emotion, as if he were holding it in his hands and simply dropped it and took on a machine tone. His arms fell to his side, and he looked straight ahead.

“THIS UNIT IS IDENTIFIED AS THE RECOVERY, EXTRACTION, AND GENERAL INFANTRY SUPPORT CONSTRUCT, DESIGNATED AS R.E.G.I.S. FOR SHORT.”

The emotion and tone came back to Reggie’s voice just as suddenly as it left.

“BUT I’S LIKES IT WHEN YOUSE CALLS ME REGGIE. IFFUN YOU WANTS, YOU CAN CALLS ME ANY OF DOSE NAMES I’S JUST SAIDS. REGGIE WANTS TA MAKE ALL OF YA REGGIE’S FRIENDS AND KEEPS YOUSE ALL SAFE. REGGIE MAKES GOODS WITS DA HEALUNS!”

Almost as if he were boasting about his healing ability, the golem put his fists on his waist and looked up. Reggie hoped this filled his new friends with confidence.

Nikolai laughed nervously while staring at her face. Sadie was edging dangerously close, and even if he really wanted to imitate her antics only to see if she could identify them as being her own, he suspected they would end up hitting each other's heads. Or at least look like they were partaking in a very strange dance. He wondered if everyone had ended there after some strange event related to caves, water or an experience that should have gotten them killed.
: "Those also do not exist in my dimension. In my version of your world, humans are the only sentient beings." he answered, trying his best to ignore the breach of his personal space as his face acquired a faint red tinge.

"Those ones seem quite energetic." he said, nodding towards the koopa and the golem.

: "How were we brought here, and most importantly, why?"

"Analyzing question...Done. Activating memory core...Done. Loading custom explanation loadout #3563...Done. You came here through a series of events known as "Chaos Gating". In this world, Gating is the act of connecting two parts of the universe through a large vast empty known as the creeping void. Chaos Gating is when this process is used in combination with chaos magick to generate a certain response. The response this time was to pull in you all, who happened to change your scenery all at precisely the same time. Through the countless changes in existence, you eight connected at precisely the same instance, and you were brought here, like many before you."

"You. Cube thingie. You say you brought us here? I demand you take us home at once!"

"Analyzing question...Done. Activating memory core...Done. Loading custom explanation loadout #9054...Done. Oh no, I was not the one who brought you here, but I am part of the process that makes the transportation possible. Though I am against what it is that truly brought you here. The idea is that someone made me to help you out against your "captor". I do not know the details, since none of them that came before carried on long enough to actually meet the perpetrator. Either way, I cannot send you home either. I am a link in the process of sending you back, but I need a series of machines to do so. By myself, I am simply an artificial intelligence in a box with a large space inside for inventory management."

"How can we disperse this fog?"

"Analyzing question...Done. Activating memory core...Done. Loading custom explanation loadout #7613...Done. The fog is a simple construct. Believe it or not, I am the one generating the hard layer around us right now. I am keeping out what wants to get in. I simply wanted you to get your footing before I let what creeps beyond take a claw at you. When you are ready, you must all repeat "I am ready to face what lies beyond" to me! I am sorry if that sounds cheesy, but I am simply following my programming.

"I would most assuredly hope this is not the afterlife. I have so much to do! Dying would be so tedious, don't you think?"

Uniq perked up as it overheard this line, then turned to look at Sadie.

"Analyzing inquiry...Done. Activating memory core...Done. Loading custom explanation loadout #0001...Done. What an odd happenstance death is, isn't it? It is the key change of scenery that actually got you all to this place. It may sound grim for it to come this bluntly, but yes. You are all dead. This is not the afterlife though.

Sadie excitedly turns to look what you're pointing at.

"Ah, the shelled one must be some sort of Lizardfolken-much larger than I've ever seen though...No idea about the other one! Perhaps an inorganic lifeform-yes, I know that is an oxymoron."

She continues to watch, then after a moment, seems to remembering something-and turn back to you. She seems to notice your blushing, leaning in ever closer.

"...hmm, why is your face showing marked coloration? Are you suffering from the sudden onset of fever or, um...heatstroke? Let me take a closer look!" An embarrassing collision seems imminent, when her attention is taken up by the machine.

....

((Two updates while I was sleeping, damnit. Oh well.))

Seuche was, opening her eyes, immensely grateful that the laws of physics still seemed to be functioning. The aftereffects of the sudden transplant swam around in her mind, her senses muddled and confused - she could still smell the dying wood of her hull, the bizarre combination of raging fires and bursting ice, the latter created by collapsing enhancements. Shouts of warning continud to echo inside her mind.

Focus. Focus! You've been through this before. The shock will pass. Look around you.

She did, but everything seemed to pass so quickly. There were others, standing on pedestals around something she could not quite look at. They moved in a blur, myriad shapes she could not make sense of.

'Oh, light,' she muttered, sitting down on her pedestal. She closed her eyes, willing the old sounds and sensations, the wrong ones, gone.

She was just in time to hear the little cuboid creature speak. The others swarmed it with questions, and one question...

Dead? No, that can't be right. Maybe it's lying. Or maybe I just can't tell the difference.

Still, she felt like she had to say something encouraging. Her ship and crew were nowhere to be seen, but it stood to reason they would've ended up with her.

'I don't know what that thing is talking about, but I intend to get out of here. If we find my ship, we can tear our way out of this world and back into your homes,' she called out. 'Captain Seuche Maratan, at your service.'

((It's official, I hate timezones.))

While he was formulating a response, she reached out and touched him on the nose with her pointer finger, giggling cheerfully.

"I am now the first Mer-Researcher in my world to make actual contact with a living specimen of Silvis Dryadalum!"

Aidan's grin widened at the person's response. She looked truly excited to be meeting one such as he. "Then I am honored to be my people's emissary to the-..." He leaned closer to inspect her body, but not close enough to be obviously noticeable - A person of tall stature wearing with what seemed to be body paint. Beautiful body paint.

"Merpeople." He tilted his head slightly aside, in a gesture of contemplation.

"You speak of science and time, yes? Well, it would be pleasing for me to tell you a whole record of my people-"

: "[...]Elves also only exist in fairytales and role-playing games, and there are no fossil records of any of you existing [here]."

"Excuse me? Fairytales?

"Hmm..."

He listened and stood silently as the two exchanged lengthy dialogue and knowledge. Including the answer from the cube-thing.

"Hmm, how can we be dead, and yet not dead? I certainly feel alive!

Do you mean in our previous worlds, we are for all intents and purposes dead, but we are still alive here and now?"

The Elf clasped his hands behind his back. "Then it is true, that this place is a different dimension of sorts?

"What is the general term for this place, one that can connect different...worlds?"

He moved closer to Sadie - as he heard her name earlier. "You're an intellectual being, could you tell me more of...how my people met their end?"

As he waited for her response, he decided to pose some more questions to the cube-thing, along with the other question earlier, under that quote.

"On whatever we may fight beyond the barrier, what weapons exist in this plane? I am only skilled in a rudimentary few, that of music and the bow.

"Also, do we require nourishment - food or water, being...both dead and not dead?"

((Come to think of it, I think we've met Schrödinger's bot. We're in Schrödinger's world!  :P))

"And as I am not seeing any way out but through the veil of mist, I am ready to face what lies beyond."

All of Uniq's responses faded out in Queen's mind as soon as she heard its last answer. Dead? They were all dead? And if this wasn't the afterlife, just what was this place? Queen shook her head and decided to heed its call. They weren't going anywhere in this fog, after all.

: "I am ready to face what lies beyond."

Queen noticed that the fish-girl had run off and started arguing mythology with two others. She decided to greet a different person. Hopefully this one wouldn't bite.

'I don't know what that thing is talking about, but I intend to get out of here. If we find my ship, we can tear our way out of this world and back into your homes,' she called out. 'Captain Seuche Maratan, at your service.'

Queen walked up to the captain and smiled softly.

: "You're quick coming to your senses. Logical, though, if you're a sea captain." She reached out her hand as she had before. "Here, want help getting up?"

Kaina wakes.

The last thing she remembers is shoulder-tackling, and being flung into, a ... hole, in the air, to a gray space. That, and falling, falling. All she was going to do was rip that man's expensive-looking purse off, to take the coins and have a good meal or two. Buy more poison, yes, and save up for ... something. Whatever might be needed.

Voices woke her up, seemingly echoing around and burrowing into her conscious mind, forcing her awake. She laid there for a bit more, resisting the sounds that kept waking her up.

She groaned and stirred.

"I'm going to punch you in the face if there's no good reason for waking me up," she mutters, before opening her eyes.

Seuche smiled at the stranger, pushing herself up with her lower arms. 'Hardly a sea captain, I'm afraid. My ship crosses worlds, like from this one to another. I don't believe I've been here before, though.'

She looked around, focusing on something she heard the cuboid say.

'Say, you mentioned others before us. What happened to them?' she asked the thing.
