"Those...were my favorite bowels." Nikolai noted with a weak voice.
As Kaina pierced through his gut with a sharp martial attack, Nikolai had only a few moments of consciousness left. Both his body and mind quickly buzzed out as he fell to the ground, his lips still forming a sly smirk even as red lines trickled down from his mouth.
And to the ground he dropped, his blood flowing freely, pooling into a small dark red puddle around his body. He felt life escaping from his body even as he tried to stay alive. On the bright side, he was downed with the knowledge his team would probably act with logic and try to revive him when it was safe to do so.
On the other side, he couldn't help but remember life was really an uncaring piece of shit. His curiousness had taken him to staring at that underwater cave and being pulled inside it, feeling helpless as even his training was unable to save him from being dragged to its depths. As long as he struggled, everything was alright; he would swim away and escape to see daylight, the incident would make him laugh afterwards and he would join college as planned, living a bright life afterwards.
The worst part was when primal despair turned into cold acceptance of reality. He had always been a logic person, which didn't change even as he fought for life. After almost a minute of struggle, Nikolai finally let go of hope and was dragged by the underwater current, holding his breath but unmoving, taking solace in the fact few people would miss him if he drowned.
He only wished he had time to tell his parents once more how he loved them...and how much he was sorry.
