I'm just assuming everyone from now on has tracked down and seen what they wanted. If not, assume spoilers from here on out.
My bad...Baba O'Riley, not My Generation. Which was actually sung by Roger Daltrey, not Townshend. Man, that is what happens when I post on 2hrs sleep.
The full playlist of Who songs, taken from
here;
Kaiser Chiefs – Pinball Wizard
The Who – Baba O’Riley / See Me, Feel Me / Listening to You / My Generation
There is apparently a full
spotify playlist of all the songs.
I thought some of the song selection was a bit naff. Anne Lennox played
Little Bird? Really? That woman can dominate a stadium with one song easily, but not that one song. And who let George try a new single? He could have gotten away with it, but it completely killed the mood after
Freedom. Bowie had clips of loads of great tracks played which then decayed into
Fashion. Muse always had to play their official song - which is a shame given some of their
older stuff actually fits the Olympics better than the track they wrote for it - but they really should have kept Matt out to sing for Queen. The man is a far better fit for Freddie than Jessie J and they could have done more than just
We Will Rock You with him on vocals.
I enjoyed
Wish You Were Here and the whole section from Russell Brand through Taio Cruz worked, even if it's less my style. The Who were great, but easily the highlight was ELO into Eric Idle.
Those who didn't watch past the end on BBC might have missed one extra track.
Emeli Sande covering Imagine. Complete with a bonus montage. Maybe a little Brit heavy in places, but given those were the stories that most people watching knew best it made it a pretty effective tearjerker. Gemma Gibbons saying I love you to her deceased mom after winning silver, immediately followed by Victoria Pendleton holding hands with her biggest rival who had just beaten her in her last ever race... And that's just two of the clips.
EDIT: Fixed massive brain fart.
