It's great to see Hewitt doing so well! It would be the most amazing thing if he got a gold; the(comparatively) old guy managing to pull it off against all odds when so many of our younger athletes suffer shock defeats and bad luck.

So it's really not the winning that counts...

One of the Chinese badminton pairs managed to deliberately lose their final group game to avoid having to play the favoured Chinese pair in the first elimination round. Seems the Koreans they were playing knew what was going on and tried to do the same thing, so there were a number of services directly to net.

I am upset about the lack of inclusion of Kickboxing as an olympic sport. Yes, they have TKD, but it's not the same.

I'm seriously thinking about taking up TKD, but I have no delusions of ever becoming an olympian.

Also, I fucking love Judo! ^_^

Yes, but I have instructor ranks in facekicking (Savate, Ninjutsu) and facekneeing-and-elbowing (Muay Thai). I don't want to step into a ring where most of my weapons are taken away.

As an ex-ITF TKD guy I've always disliked the Olympic style. It's closer to foot fencing, with everything about a single quick flourish of legs (and only legs) and then hugging until the ref calls break. There are some fancy looking kicks that can sometimes be effective, but that exists in ITF sparing as well, alongside punching blitzes (see around 50 seconds) and more general sustained exchanges.

We used to have training matches where you could only use your legs, including to guard/block. They looked like Olympic WTF sparing.

I'm probably long enough out of training to enjoy it again (only had about three bouts of sparing since the last Olympics), but it always bugged me.
