The Cuban flag bearer is the guy who won the gold medal in the 120 kg Greco-Roman category. He's a pretty big dude. People thought he defected and was training to be an MMA fighter a few years ago.

The Mongolian flag appears to be being carried by Ghengiz Khan. Not quite as good an outift as Fiji, but still impressive.

The ceremony was surprisingly well done.  The flame was definitely cool.  Plenty of inexplicable moments in the early part though.

Hmm. It's just starting here. I guess I'll just have to see what's so unexplainable. It all seems pretty good so far.

I got to watch part of it. I enjoyed it, parents thought it was stupid and switched to HGTV.  :-\

Thankfully, it was recorded, so I can watch the rest some other time. I'm really looking forward to seeing the outfits all the different countries were wearing, and listening to Sir Paul McCartney!

3 sports Belgium *could* get a medal in today.
Cycling, judo and tennis.

EDIT:

Oh, and i loved the opening ceremony AFTER the part with the smithing of the ring, that part was kinda boring. (i had gone to bed about an hour after that tough)

Admittedly, the countryside bit was a little dull, but I enjoyed pretty much all of the Industrial Revolution. The music was more intense, those smokestacks rose forever, and of course the top-hat guys were fun to watch. I wonder if TotalBiscuit was out there :P

The countryside stuff was certainly a bit better than the bizarre dance medley/terrible love story thing it devolved into.

There were a couple of good songs involved, too, though. If only they'd chosen the Pistols' God Save the Queen...
Whoah wait, what, I'm just reading a list of songs they played. Did they really play that?! With the Queen in attendance? :o
I wonder what she thought of that...  :P Seems like a surprising choice.
