Black woman + high profile = shitstorm about hair

In this case a little more intense than usual, but frankly there is still controversy when, say, Oprah changes her hair. How black women, especially famous black women, wear their hair is take as a political statement. Combine that with intense fashion criticism from black women who have put an extremely high priority on appearance, especially hair.

Gabby had a maintenance hairstyle that actually made sense for a gymnast; that is, neither natural nor styled. So you have two groups offering criticism. Then you have that criticism that is usually restricted to black dominated sites and publications being broadcast over twitter and tumblr and a whole mess of white people trying to chime in. At which point a whole cultural and racial issue got boiled down to this sort of utterly insufficient summary.

Man, I feel sorry for Japan. They played so damned fun football, but Solo was just too good. I guess that's just to be expected from someone related to Harrison Ford though.

Aw, man... I don't want the Olympics to end.

It's weird, I remember in 2008 I found them really annoying since everyone was using the TV to watch them, thus cutting in on my videogaming time. But this year I've been watching them avidly.

Maybe I'll have to get cable TV so I can watch sports more often. And Cartoon Network, naturally.
The only bad thing about the Olympics is the horrors it has inflicted on my sleep patterns.

Jesus, I can't believe it's over already. There's way too much to see than can ever be seen at any of the Olympics, at least in the time that they go on. I hope NBC will keep the replay videos up after it ends.
