Admittedly, the countryside bit was a little dull, but I enjoyed pretty much all of the Industrial Revolution. The music was more intense, those smokestacks rose forever, and of course the top-hat guys were fun to watch.
It was intentional :|

The mens road race is shaping up for some kind of mad finish by the looks of it.

I just hope some Belgian is at least third in the road race D:

Its a prerequisite for being a conservative - you have to be rooted in the past, threatened by anything that is even vaugely forward thinking, and dumb enough to voice this at any opportunity. Suprised by the comment considering the massive nod to the birth of Britain in the Victorian era, which conservatism in this country holds as the golden age.

So far the archery has impressed me again today - the level of skill to hit 8, 9 or 10 with such regularity is remarkable.

Road race is still far too tight to predict, though the GB team seem to be up to something despite a few Belgians and Italians being up front.

Miauw, if you want some good Belgian news hows about this:

Quote
That potential upset is now an actual upset. Steve Darcis of Belgium beats Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych, a former Wimbledon finalist, 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the Olympic men's singles at Wimbledon.

Berdych was a potential quarter-final opponent - and seen as a possible stumbling block - for Britain's Andy Murray. Not any more, he isn't.

heh. apparently a conservative called the opening ceremony on twitter 'a load of leftist multiculturalism' (as an insult), and is now in trouble.

I honestly don't get why they can't keep their mouths shut, or, in this case, fingers still.
It was Aidan Burley. The tweet was "Thank God the athletes have arrived! Now we can move on from leftie multi-cultural crap."
He wasn't saying it in the sense of multiculturalism being a bad thing, but rather that he believed that it was being given a rather disproportionate focus, at the expense of the athletes and the sport.

Great work by Belgium's Philippe Gilbert, who not only caught the first breakaway bunch but is now off the front of the race and has opened up a 35 second advantage. He has got an awful long way to go back to the centre of London on his own, though... about 55km.

Behind him, the remainder of the escapees are about to get swept up by the British-led peloton. This race has been bubbling under for a while but now it is coming to the boil.

OH FUCK YES!
Go Gilbert!

EDIT:
I am really, really overexcited for this.

If only they'd chosen the Pistols' God Save the Queen...
The Sex Pistols actually specifically rejected an offer to reform and play (although that might've been at the closing ceremony).

I figured out how to watch the BBC streams in the United States. Probably not that hard for us Bay12ers.

This race isn't over yet, though. The leaders have just misjudged a corner and half a dozen have crashed out.

WHO IS IT WHO IS IT WHO IS IT?

EDIT:
Fabian cancellara is out!

Fabian Cancellara down. Didn't take anyone else down, at least not seriously. It does look very serious for him though. Having a rolling checkup on his arm/shoulder.

The breakaway pack was already in some trouble though. Looks more likely they will get caught now. Nevermind. If the admittedly dodgy timing is accurate they simply can't catch the leaders. Also seems that Tom Boonen was stopped (but not hurt) by the crash and is pretty out of it as well.

On the political stuff;

Nice work by the leading pack in the cycling. Timed that break well at about half way out and kept the pace up to prevent the chasing pack catch up as they got back into the city. Right, what next? Judo?
