Flash CS5: Disable anti-aliasing
« on: July 25, 2012, 04:15:55 pm »

Okay, this one is driving me NUTS. I've drawn an image in Flash CS5, and I've set the preview mode while viewing it to "fast". This causes all edges to render with hard pixels (like when you draw with the pencil tool in Photoshop) which is what I want the final image to look like, too... except that there's no way to do that.

When I go to File > Export > Export Image > Export .PNG and turn off "Smooth", it STILL anti-aliases all the lines in the final image. How can I disable anti-aliasing for the WHOLE DOCUMENT in Flash CS5?

Do you mean you want some example pictures? Give me a little bit, I'll show what I mean.

If not, that's what I've been doing so far to get them uploadable in this state. But some images are too large to printscreen on my monitor :I

Flash images are Vector by default, and rasterized to a bitmap or png format after convert to symbol.

But that, doesn't cover it?

Nope. The hard edges are not a part of the image, so they can't be rasterized that way in the program -- they're an effect of the way Flash is rendering them in-software. I understand they're vector images, I just want them to export like I view them in the software. Here's what I'm talking about:

Is the blur applied in the save, or by adobe while you look at the image?
Suddenly, I realize I don't have Flash CS5 installed.
* shrug

Perhaps flash is actually doing vector-bitmap-png?
It's not natural to add blurryness to a png just because you saved it.

I don't use flash. You should try asking on newgrounds.

I've seen at least one tutorial that knew the exact problem you are talking about. I do not remember what it was called.

Ehh, that tutorial is not really the kind of thing I'm looking for. That's more Flash degrading the quality of exports than the forced smoothing applied to PNG.

I managed to find my old installer stuff for Flash CS3 from a few years ago. I followed through the exact same steps in CS3 (mostly just disabling smoothing) and as it turns out hard edges on export work fine in that version. I'd still like to use a couple of the nicer features from CS5, but no big loss. Thanks for your efforts anyway.
