What does "town" mean on the embark map?

I was poking around, saw a volcano.  The list of neighbors indicated elf, gobs dwarf, human, tower, and town.  What does town mean?  Fun human times?

It means a necromancer conquered a town. That town will send necromancer sieges your way.

Eh? If you mean are the sieges finite, yes. If you kill all of the necros the sieges will stop.
