Not exactly pertaining to 1.40/Orc Fortress, but what would you suggest for introducing poisons into enemy blood? I have been using singing arrows, but they work too well, killing enemies before the poison does its work. If blowdarts are more ideal for this, what material would you suggest using such that they will penetrate even steel armour?

The Voodoo poison in particular is amusing when it works, but too often does the enemy die under a hail of arrows before he turns on his brethren.

I don't micromanage it too much but I like poison on arrows or darts that wouldn't be effective otherwise, bone or rustyiron.  The most effectiveness I've gotten out of them is against the unarmored war animals that come with human etc. sieges, and centaur packs, stuff like that.

* bug:    [NEEDS_MAGMA] magma factory
* added Kobold WITCH and WITCHER to allowed castes for spell mojos and Arcane weapons.  Have fun little guys!! :D
** Meph had already given them access to mojos in MDF3b, and I screwed it up in 1.40
** I don't know if they can actually pick up the weapons ^^

Atlatl is just a javelin weapon, thrown skill.  It's inferior to the dwarven crossbow style javelin launcher, but should be good for some extra early game or tribal-fort piercing damage (or blunt, if you grab some of the Sun & Stars hammer javs).  It might be a decent option if you had an early militia using tomahawks or bola and they get good enough skill in thrown weapon that you want them to specialize.

Stikkbomb satchel gives the ability to throw a fireball, but not very often.

Detonator gives the ability to do this

None of the Orcs' fire weapons are particularly 'safe' for the user (excepting maybe fire arrows).

lol :D

it's a very high velocity dart gun comparable to the dwarven Mechanized crossbow.  maybe in the future the steamfoundry makes some custom ammo for it too as a "sink" to spend extra automaton parts on.

Unfortunately in the current DF engine the two are linked.  I think that they might become separable with Toady's next update.

Altar of Storms. 
You'll need some stuff plus a soulgem, from the Totem pole (= large gem, totem, blood, dreamtalisman).  And an aurochs *bull*.

same as ever, by ~5% chance when you cut raw gems. (or cut glass? maybe too)
