This looks very interesting indeed. Lots of scope, love the ideas, all that's too see is if the execution is good.

I would go for the Free Nations, for a number of reasons. Firstly, they are the last remnants of original humans, and what's better than defending the last of humanity?
Second, electroblade? Who wouldn't want one of those. Thirdly, the fighter craft look fantastical. And finally, I'd just make a lot of Star Trek quotes, because you can never have enough Star Trek quotes.
And now, because I feel bad just posting this little, have a little bit of story.

Humanity. We had a stab at it. We tried democracy, we tried to all live together peacefully. We just tried to get through each day without the threat of nuclear attack. Suffice to say, we failed. But it's gone far beyond that now. We are too far gone now. All that is left of our democratic society is forced to pull together just to defend our little patch of the galaxy.
On one side, the Salvation. Traitorous offshoots of humans. In Earth's dying moments they were created which left them with amazing powers such as reflecting bullets. Lots of fancy stuff to protect their weak bodies; still a damn sight better than us.
The next enemy; Drones. Ha, the classical robots. Created to fight in the war, before deciding they wanted something for their own. Their own moon, planet, system. Now they want the galaxy, just like everyone else in this joint. They're the opposite to the Salvation; slow, lumbering robots that can take a hell'uva beating. And as if these two weren't bad enough, there's another.
The Wyr, another crazy experiment of humanity. Another mistake. These androids are masters of technology, beating down our walls with bombs and soldiers with sentry guns. While unpredictable, they are still very dangerous.
So, with these foes baying for our blood, I send my message.
Run. Run and don't stop running. If any remaining members of the Free Nations hear me, don't remain here to fight. The fight is over. The fight was over a long time ago. Now all we can hope is to escape this sector and rebuild a home elsewhere, where the denizens of this galaxy might leave us in peace. Maybe for a week or more. I'm sorry, but we have no other options.
