Slender - Another Mini Horror Game
« on: July 20, 2012, 05:25:22 am »

Just found out about this game.

It's basically like one of those SCP mini horror games :D

You have to walk through a dark forest (you do have a flashlight) and find 8 pages, but someone else might be there with you.

He might poorly act like he's going to eat your soul or something, thereby actually destroying your soul.

But seriously, I was shocked that this didn't already have a thread. I tried playing with a friend once and I had to quit before getting the third note.

I got to the first note.

Then the scare chord started. I was like "Nope!" and hit ESC with the wrath of an angry god.

DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

Yay, perhaps it will be able to really show up that one blatant copy into the festering corrupted earth of the forest, because seriously it's not cool to just copy someone's game but have a different map and MSPainted notes.

Out of Curiousity, what are you refering to? Because I have no idea what your talking about.

I'm most likely never going to play this game, because the simple talk of "Horror" causes me to run in fear.

Here you go. It is pretty much the most blatant ripoff without permission ever.

You act as if people make profit off of free unity games. It could just as easily be a tribute.

Because AgentParsec has aknowledged it as a complete ripoff could maybe be why I don't like it?
It's a bit rude to try and release your copy of someone else's game as a standalone game. It invalidates the other person's work.

It doesn't invalidate it anymore than coke invalidates pepsi. Unless the sole reason the Slenderman game was made was to be completely unique and original.

As someone who's played neither game, what exactly is a blatant ripoff about the sanatorium one? It seems like the Slender one is set in a forest with completely different environments? Is it that they're both FPS horror games with slenderman in, or is the code exactly the same or what?

The character controls the same, slenderman behaves the same, following you closer as you get more notes, it has the same note collecting objective, with the same number of notes as well. The ambient noise builds up in the same way, getting a new layer of music as you pick up each note. It is quite literally Slender but inside and with retextured notes.

And a direct copy invalidates someone's work because the original designer is saying, "Hello this is my thing that I made and here it is.", and then somebody comes along and makes something almost identical to go, "And also here is my thing which is mine here you go.". It's claiming that the original idea/product was equally as original as the copy. Which is just not a truth.

A lot of what you're describing there sounds like it's just the conventions of the genre? I mean it's not like whoever made the original Slender game created the slenderman character, and controls within genres tend to get standardized incredibly quickly too. It's not like FPS controls are a new thing. The music mechanic is probobly the only fair point there, but even that isn't really original to Slender, though I can't be bothered to actually look into it all that much.

And that isn't what invalidate means, which was the point I was trying to make before.
