Now leaving all that existentialist angst alone (I think I covered it, albeit badly)...
Went to see the film the other day. They had a trailer for Gangster Squad in it, which I
think was toned down[1]. Didn't get a sense of personal danger (in the UK here, but that's not a good point to start arguing about), and no doubt there was a bit more interest in the film, but marginal. (It was in one of the the joint-largest non-Imax screens in the multiplex. It wasn't anywhere near packed[2], but then it was a virtually 'off-peak' time, not matched to the evening rush or even a just-got-out-of-work one.)
(Not really the place to discuss the following. Spoilered due to the lower relevence, already having obfuscated
true spoilers away...)
As to the plot... Half suspected that <redacted> would be donning the suit for the main action. Did <redacted> do a "
Nice Job Breaking It, Hero" with what he had in his pocket, or would something else have been rolled out as part of the antagonist's grand plan? I was quite surprised that <redcted> actually
was where he thought he'd been put, and not seen next atop one of those chimneys next to the bridge... I twigged as to the main Antagonist reveal a
short time before it was realised, but then I'd missed the earlier hint. And I'd already wondered if someone else would be Winging through the Night in any follow-up... And, indeed.
[1] The only obvious clip of "shooting people in a cinema" appeared to be a line of people firing at a flat surface, i.e. presumably from behind the screen and towards an audience, but that side was never shown...
[2] I like being a few rows back from the front, middle, and there was nobody else on my row, a couple on the row in front and some in the ones even more frontwards. Can't really say how packed it was, behind me, in the more traditionally-taken seats, because of the darkness when I first got in, eyes adapting properly only when walking along the row.
