Won't he plead insanity instantly? I mean that seems to be the way these things go.
The days of insanity pleas for everything are over. It is now much more difficult to legally qualify for an insanity defense.
Guess I missed the memo.

So plead guilty then? I mean I don't see how he couldn't at this point.

Then again schizophrenia fits what we've heard so far for the most part. Obviously there has to be more to it than we've heard but nothing discounts it as a possibility. His age and stressful education come to mind along with it all being obviously premeditated.

Honestly... the best response to this whole situation is not to talk about it at all.  The kind of attention these events get is completely disproportionate to the rest of reality, as I described in the sad thread a short while ago, and that's usually why people do things like this.  They want attention.  They may not always want this attention for the same reasons ("go out with a bang"/bring attention to an issue/cause paranoia/just plain become infamous), but the bottom line is always attention and the media gives them exactly what they want.
This bears posting again. (One of Charlie Brooker's better moments.)

He'll probably plead not guilty and go for insanity.

lets see
Paper says he was wearing a costume from the film.
Paper is blaming some 25 yr old comic batman  scene where a gunman shoots up a cinema.
and he owned an arsenal namely the glock, shotgun and rifle & 6000 rounds.
And its all americas gun crazed culture that stops shooting being stopped.

Dont remember bane being swat guy
Comic is older than the shooter and the only ones who know about it are either comic collectors or someone has parents collection.
pistol = personal, Shotgun = hunting, Rifle = Target/long range hunt , I'd consider that the 3 are basically covering base and 6K ammo, you would go through that farily easy.

Just the usual paper/media freakout esp where a glock is a "dangerous military grade weapon for professionals" and military gade shotguns and rifles. I have to ask where the hell you can get teargas in america if civilian? Paronid gun laws do nothing for gun crime. We here have more gun crime than ever and has gone from double barrel shotgun to semi auto rifles and pistols galore. Tis country its hard to get a shotgun licence, a air rifle requires a full rifle licence and handguns are a nono, even police get in parers when they look for permission to own a target pistol and are refused as its a "dangerous military grade weapon for professionals"

It would be very hard to argue that tighter gun restrictions would fail to make events like this less frequent, regardless of the political or social factors at play regarding gun ownership.

Events like this one? Dude was pretty dedicated, so he'd probably of just gotten his arsenal off the black market if he couldn't of got them legally. Gun control is for reducing the damage done by spontaneous violent crime (road rage, domestic disputes, etc) by reducing the deadliness of their potential weapons, and keeping weapons out of the hands of those with violent histories. It is at best a minor hindrance for those like James Holmes, who planned everything and would have time to circumvent any roadblocks we set up.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

@Lord Inquisitor: yeah, it wasn't "military grade" anything, it was all stuff you can legally buy down at the shops. Which makes it much more reassuring :/

btw daily mail are illiterate:

Bomb disposal experts have started the delicate process of entering Holmes' flat in Denver, Colorado, and have warned the intricate wiring means they may have to remove trip wiring which could cause explosives.

Man, i'm glad they warned the intricate wiring, rather than "warned that ...", and anything which could cause explosives is terrible!

I think it's not so much the weapons that should have been a red flag as the six thousand rounds of ammunition he bought over the Internet in a two-month period.  That's the kind of thing you would expect to raise some red flags.

No more than any teabagger after Obama was elected.

Anyway, saw the movie last night (It was reasonably good), they still hadn't pulled the Gangster movie preview where the gangster shoot up a movie theater. Lots of throat clearing at that.

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Sorry, not buying that at all. Not going to derail this thread though, so wont be commenting further on this matter, sorry.

I woke up to that being the first thing on my Facebook feed today; with only "What if?" as the description. Reminding me why I hate that website.

Ensue yelling at people.

I like how whenever this country has a real tradgedy the jackasses come along and try to make it into an issue of x vs y. In this case it's the same "THE MAN" derps who think everything's out to get them jumping on it because fuck it; making sense in 2012 doesn't matter anymore.

Wow. They estimated the total cost of the guns to be about 5k (not a good estimate). Then they bumped the total cost be 15k for the bomb making stuff, a paragraph down from when they said it was made of 30 fireworks mortars and gasoline. Good god, they could at least get the numbers right.
