Bit of a derail, but a little side note on the WBC, they are a cult and like alot of cults the best way to keep the membership faithful is to totally alienate them from society at large, the total jerkoff behavior is less about trying to piss other people off than keep the membership separate from the mainstream.

Bleah....and the inaccurate politicizing goes on.

Obama told a crowd in New Orleans that "most gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not criminals". Shooter didn't have an AK-47, and our military doesn't use them. Shooter *did* have an AR-15, which is the civilian version of the M16 assault rifle. Minor detail, but one that his speechwriters should have been on top of. Confusing rather different sorts of guns lessens your credibility with the pro-gun folks (not that you had much to work with there in the first place).

Meanwhile, Romney stated that gun laws wouldn't have helped because the shooter "never should have had any weapons or bombs, and most of them were already illegal. So new laws just wouldn't have helped."
In fact, all the weapons used were purchased legally. Even the materials used to make the IEDs in the apartment were purchased legally. So yeah, Mittens...there's some room for closing legal loopholes there. Like...I dunno....reinstating the Federal Assault Weapons Ban? Kinda like the Massachusetts state ban you signed as a governor, you jerkoff?

I think we can all agree that Romney's just stupid.

It's a well known that that pretty much all guns are AK-47s.  We Brits know these things.

to be fair, the AK is one of the most robust guns in existence.
Robust, simple, sold to everyone everywhere, and quintessentially Russian in every possible way.

[direct reply to "and other politician's aren't [stupid]?", but intervening replies came in while typing...]

They're something or other...

Personally, I don't like the prefacing of all statements with "[...and] what I would [like to] say to you", or similar, that regularly gets an airing in debates-for-broadcast statements here in the UK.  Maybe it's something to exclaim[1], while the actual words that follow are still being formed, internally checked for obvious blooper-fodder and perhaps dredging the internal thesaurus for some weasel-word to 'inadvertently' insult the aforementioned speaker with...

But I always hear it as "And what I would like to say is <bad thing is bad, good thing is good, etc>...", but leaving the unsaid proposition that they can't actually do it, for some reason[2]...  but this way it sounds like they are doing.  A bit like the bit right near the beginning of the Foundation series where someone diplomatic came and spoke platitudes at the (First) Foundation, but when what he said was semantically analysed it came out as absolutely nothing...

But that's politicians for you.  Even the best of them have to do this.  Anyone who umms and ahhs too early on in their prospective political trajectories never get much further.  A 'Peter Principle' for public office.  There are very few exceptions.  (Although I highly suspect Boris Johnson is "Too dumb to be dumb", in this regard.  After being rude about an entire city's population, and being ordered to go there and apologise by his party leader, he goes and sabotages his own apologies by saying the wrong thing again...  "Ohhh Boris...".  Probably didn't hurt him being made Mayor of an entirely different city, of course...  Like I said in another thread, all he needs to do is mess up in the Olympics really badly[3], permanently emigrate to the US within the next cpuple of years and it could be "Boris for POTUS, 2028!")

[1] Nigel Firage (sp?) of UKIP is very good at Exclaiming.  As if he's talking to the back of a village hall or an outdoors croed, from atop a literal soap-box, unplugged and without any electronic amplification even when he's speaking into a radio microphone on a radio programme.  Just one of the things I don't like about him, the way he's louder (and, presumably, thinks that makes him more convincing)...

[2] Things-Wot-The-Public-Ought-Not-To-Know, perhaps.  Or We-Won't-Be-Able-To-Afford-It.  Or My-Party-And-Me-Disagree-On-This-Issue.

[3] Although almost anything he does will almost certainly be an "Oooh Boris, not again..." thing, forgiven by most people, so this'd have to be really bad.  Do you think he was the one who arranged for the South Korean flag to be used for the North Korean team, earlier? ;)

Bah. If we have to have gun control, shotguns had better not be made illegal :P

(A great self-defense weapon, near-impossible to conceal, everyone wins!)

Ain't shotguns the kind of weapons that you can conceal under a trenchcoat?

Appears so.

Maybe a sawed-off (which I'm pretty sure is illegal anyway) or a military shotgun which you shouldn't have, but proper civilian hunting/target shotguns are pretty big.

Sawed-off shotguns are an interesting legal quandary, because the specifications for what level of barrel shortening legally constitutes a sawed-off are very specific.

note the :P at the end of my comment.

it means that I'm making a joke.
I know...  I think I shifted my reply smiley right to the bottom when I inexplicably went verbose...  (Verbose?  Me?  The very model of laconic succinctity?  Who'd've thunk it?)

By now I'd be surprised if there were a single issue Romney could avoid contradicting himself on.  I guess in this case he went a bit further by basing his argument on a complete falsehood.

The Internet was an accessory this horrible tragedy, and that is worth thinking about, no matter what your beliefs.

in otherwords lets blame the internet and not the whackjob pulling the trigger.

-------
On the shotgun thing, why are the barrels getting shorter? you see crap like 26" ers for sale whter ate the 34 and 36" accurate barrels gone?

Yeah, it's ridiculous that anything other than the perpetrator could have any responsibility at all.
