Yeah screw the decimal system what idiots count anyway. Let divisions by 3 yield an integer so we get to write all the normal gauges in fractions, mission failed succesfully.

Anyway, question: if you know the contents of an encrypted file, like if you got hacked but know what one of the files contained before it was encrypted, does that not let you determine the key to potentially encrypt other files? Or is ransomware smart enough to use a different key per file?  Or does knowing the true contents not help get the key anyway?

Hm sounds logical. I suppose you'd have do get extremly data sciency about it. Forget about extracting it, how do you even know what block it was written to? Huh, could one prepare for the day somebody tries a ransomware, find the key oneself?

Q:
I've never quite understood why in the sentence 'James while John had had had had had had had had had had had a better effect on the teacher' all the actual tenses (excluding the reported choices of James and John) are past perfect.
As in, in what sense is it more correct to say 'John had had "had had" than 'John had "had had"'. I get the past tense (it all happened at some point in the past), but why the perfect aspect? Why is the action of having 'had had' treated as happening before that past moment?
Is the meaning here that the past moment is the teacher assessing a test, but the test itself had taken place earlier?
Is this correct thinking? And if not, then how can I grok this?

I wonder if the "randomness" associated with quantum mechanics is a manifestation of a chaotic system.

I keep pondering as a layman about where randomness could even originate, or what it means.  I was reading about some unrelated topic and realized that chaotic systems appear "random" to some extent... so maybe there's something there.  Given that chaotic systems cannot be predicted specifically, only statistically... or "simulated out", which is what we do with QM systems... I don't know enough to know if this is perhaps just a "hidden variable" theory though. Doesn't quite feel like it, because even if you know the parameters of a chaotic system, it doesn't help if there is any uncertainty in the measurement at any point in time...

I've never been satisfied with the response "it's just random, and it works, so we accept it."
