That one(unreasonable?) thing to change about DF...

What is that one thing you wanted changed about DF, but never have asked... maybe it is ascetic?  Perhaps a major change?  Something trivial?

I wish civs could/would try to settle more regions.  Are dorfs really that afraid of dark gnomes?  Do elves really shun ALL outside forests?

Perhaps this current arc Toady is on will fix this(was it broken)?

I want it to include a larger character set. Such as using asian characters.

Low pressure boilers!
I know toady doesn't want steam, but this isn't the same.
When heated (by magma or by a burner) it boils water into steam which comes out one side to be directed though pipes like other fluids.
It can then be used for scolding enemies or in primitive and inefficient engines, something like a giant Aeolipile.

To make things FUN, if you build pipes out a weak metal they can burst and if you don't supply the boiler with enough water the pressure from the hot air will make it explode(IRL they do this!).

We just need to get Toady to embed a Lisp interpreter into DF.  Learning lambda calculus in order to play the game wouldn't make DF's learning curve much steeper.

Combined all similar trade goods.  It was fine when you could go and hit enter and then down and then enter and down again.  Now, we've got pages and pages of "Plump helmets [5]".  If you hit enter, it asks you "How many [0-5]?".  Either get rid of that, or combine them to "Plump helmets [234]", ""How many [0-234]?".

Fixing stacks so I have one stack of three hundred coins, not seventy-two stacks of varying amounts.

And that bug in Adventurer Mode (don't know if it happens in Dwarf Mode or not) that makes shooting a prone target ridiculously difficult even if you're standing one block away from them.

Actually, I find it easier to do if I sit on the ground, for w.e. reason.  Plenty dangerous, but good if you are sneaking anyhow.

The animals are utterly stupid. The lack of herd behaviour and basic understanding that "if the first 30 yaks in front of you were killed walking up a spot, dont walk on the spot".
Even if ot that, just a basic set of actions following what they should do. If you were a plain animal, would you go to the big imposing fortress with lots of uneven ground?

I hope toady includes this in the next few releases, what with his current track.

A [START_BIOME:ANY_MOUNTAIN] tag to have dwarves settle on mountains other than neutral ones. There exist tags that allow entities to start in any biome of a certain type, except for mountains.

There *is* a mouse fortress mod, you should check it out.

A more intresting adventure mode, but thats coming up. :D

I want to see insanity happen more often.  i think it would be nice if there were no such thing as a tantrum, any dwarf who would throw a tantrum now instead goes insane, but they can recover in more or less the same amount of time they would recover from a tantrum.  Insanity isn't necessarily lethal, but it can still wind up being lethal if a berserk dwarf picks a fight with a skilled soldier, a melancholy dwarf finds lava to dive into before he recovers, or something like that.

It's been requested several times in the past, but Toady's either refused it, ignored it, or just not noticed it in the first place: a new machine trigger activated by the presence of machine power, just like a lever or pressure plate but it turns on when connected to a water wheel or windmill and turns off when disconnected. That alone would make dwarfputing much simpler, eliminating the need to use pressure plates and screw pumps and flowing water.

Dwarves freezing. Really, I want to build heating systems in the fortresses. I don't like it when it's winter but everyone is happy outside.
What about light?I'm pretty sure dwarves do not sense the world with their beards.
