Okay, parting out the water and food should be a good idea. I carefully inscribe my name on a paper cup using some wall-paint and my finger.

LEO

And drink one cup of water. Someone else can write their name on the other side of this cup if they want to share.

Break an apple in half and check it out inside. Anything interesting? If not, eat the apple and retain the seeds and stem.

Contemplate a sandwich, but I can't really break it in half without mangling it. I'll wait until someone eats half a sandwich, and then gobble up the other half.

Examine the walls where we wiped paint away. Use the corner of a mat to wipe away the rest of the paint on one small area and see what's underneath.

Examine the metal box inside and out. Is there anything for the mechanical arm to grab? Any markings? Secret compartments? How is the lid attached?

Leo crushes an apple, and examines its contents. nothing of interest. He eats the apple, setting aside the seeds and stem in a small pile.

He opens the jug of water, setting aside the cap, and pours some water into his customized idento-cup. (expospeakiness is next to godliness)

His hunger and thirst satisfied, he proceeds to examine the box. It resembles the "aperture science weighted storage cube" from Portal, though it is only a foot and a half wide (and long and tall, it is, in fact, a cube.) About four fifths from the top of the box, it opened, secured on one side by a small hinge in the middle. One corner is slightly dented from Rarborman's experimental toss. Leo is reminded that she still hadn't answered his question. it doesn't seem like the inside, which is composed of smooth metal, hides any secret compartments, although he thinks that the box's walls are hollow, judging by the weight. A quick tap on the floor confirms this.

He rubs a spot on the wall with a mattress, and the wet, slippery paint is found to conceal a "regular" black paint. The paint is smooth and glossy, and has no unusual qualities.

Rarborman beats the sandwich with the box until it falls apart into two roughly equal halves, and she and Leo eat the sandwich.

(Now, if you want to do this same routine every day with the food, you can just say so, and it will count as one action, or if you want to do something different, specify the change. [If you do change it, it will still count as one action unless do change it drastically) It's up to you.)

Attack the robot arm with the box when its time.

I'm effectually mute, so slap Leo as a form of communication.
Drink some water.

Rarborman, who apparently turned into Chell, slaps Leo. As good a reason as any to sleep on top of someone, I guess.
She drinks some water, directly from the jug. (I think that's what you would do if you decided to specify)

with the boxhat on her head, she surrounds herself with the mattresses, making it slightly less obvious that she was lying in ambush.

I'm going to lay beside the incoming vent and feel the floor, waiting for the arm, listening carefully. I'm hoping to detect some change that might precede the arm's action. That way in the future we have some warning.

Ex1: Is the floor's warmth doing anything to the paint that we got on the floor earlier? Is it drying?
Ex2: Do I notice any change in my skin where I touched some paint? Like a rash or anything?

Leo lies on the floor, his ear to the ground.

The paint on the floor is unchanged.

He looks at his finger tips were he touched the paint. He doesn't see any rash or other mark. He thinks he feels some itchiness, but it's probably psychosomatic.

Zomara eats an apple and discards the seeds and stem in the pile and drinks some water because I'm tired of waiting for him. He examines his hands and finds that he does, indeed, have five fingers on each.

End of turn Six.

With the two daring prisoners lying in wait, and Zomara standing around doing nothing, they wait. And wait. And wait some more. After a long while, Leo feels a slight rumbling in the floor. Seconds after, the arm comes down from its panel and moves down quickly towards Rarborman's box hat. When it grabs on, she springs out, ferocious as a carp, and leaps heroically onto the arm. Leo stands up, and begins flailing at the arm without much purpose. The arm shakes around until it had successfully dislodged Rarborman, and quickly retracted into the ceiling, leaving the box behind. Rarborman was a bit winded, but otherwise unharmed.

After the perfect amount of time for proper comedic effect, the hatch in the ceiling opened again, and a box identical to the first one was dropped unceremoniously through. The shock of impact opened this box, revealing a padded interior, and a moderate sized electronic e-reader, bearing no brand marks. (I know this isn't what you meant by "reading material", but just plain giving you a book didn't seem Fun enough. If it makes you feel better, I did roll for what I would give you.)

Oh lawd we can ask for stuff.

ACT: Carefully place e-reader on the floor, taking the two metal boxes. Stack them and stand on them so I can reach the ceiling.
EX1: Do I feel anything interesting on the ceiling?
EX2: Search the second metal box for secret compartments.

Use the box stack to reach the grating, and try to dislodge it if possible, after leo is done with them.

60 feet high.
yeeeeeeeah. I'll admit, my wording on that bit was kinda weird (I fixed it, though).
I'll let you redo the action and first examination for that.

Leo examines the padded box. He finds an unconcealed pocket, containing nothing. After a few more minutes, he thinks that there is nothing else of note.

Okay

ACT: Using the apple stem as a pen, and paint from the wall as ink, write a note on the lid of the first metal box:

"Can you please put another meal in the next box, and also a flexible hose-camera with spotlight that can plug into the e-reader? It would be really swell if the camera could reach about 50 times the length of the side of one of these metal boxes."

EX2: Is there any variation in the texture of the wall paint? Like, are any parts noticeably thicker, of different color, or drooping? Are there any brush marks?

Leo writes a note asking for some equipment.

He looks at the paint on the walls. Aside from where the prisoners wiped some off, the paint is smooth and even.

Rarborman, ever the destruction enthusiast, throws the padded box at the "south" grating. There are no different results then last time.

Rarborman picks up the box, but right as she begins her throw, The lights turn off for the night.

End of turn Seven.
