Orcs Must Die 2: Electric Boogaloo
« on: July 17, 2012, 04:34:05 pm »

Some of you may remember the thread I made a while back. Then again, maybe not. It wasn't really memorable.

Anyway, if you don't remember:
"...is a strategy video game developed by Robot Entertainment. It is a Tower defense game that eschews the traditional top-down view of similar games, instead using a third-person action-oriented viewpoint."

It was unique in that you could use the environment to your advantage, placing physics-based traps to mess up waves of enemies while also playing a 3rd person 'war mage' who was pretty powerful on his own. I loved the original to bits, and played it 2-3 times through. I'm a bit of a fan.

SINCE THEN Robot Entertainment made enough money for a sequel. And it's awesome.

This time, we have co-op; the second player can play as some sort of witch-thing. There are also have a crapton of more traps, guardians, and spells. About 50 in total. AND endless mode, where you try and hold out against increasingly large and deadly waves of enemies for as long as possible.

Anyway, it looks pretty cool, and it comes out on steam in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. So make sure to buy a copy for you and your friend.

Neat! I really like OMD, so I'll have to pick the sequel up.

Orcs must die was one of my favorite games in the last few years.  I'll definitely be picking this up.

I had a blast with the first game and will definitely pick up the sequel, too. The 2-player option a great new addition, I'm glad they listened to the fans who requested co-op play. The Sorceress design is shit, though. *sigh*

Orcs Must Die! was a great game. I have to say I'm a little bit hesitant about the co-op feature. I found it a little refreshing for an "action tower defence" game to have its focused purely on single player. Problem with a lot of co-op games or games with co-op is I just don't really like co-op (I prefer versus with friends), it often feels like I bought half a game and I can't access content because I don't want to play with a friend.

I know a lot of people disagree on that view-point but that's my own personal bias against co-op. Hopefully the singleplayer will still be as well designed as it was in the first game.

Call me when they make a game where you play as the poor, hard-done-by orcs, wiping out their OP human oppressors. >:(

...I'm guessing it'd be called Humans Must Die?

I am looking forward to this, the first one was a ton of fun and me and a friend are always on the lookout for good coop titles.

The Sorceress design is shit, though. *sigh*

What's wrong with it? I quite like it, got a bit of that silly retro fantasy style that I miss from todays fantasy games now that they are all srs bsns. Yes I am one of those who prefer high heels in games even though they are completely unrealistic, why? Because I think it looks better :p

Ohhh. I loved the first one. Certainly getting this one.

That said I have no friends, so I don't really care about the co-op.

Nice!

I hope there is more synergy between traps. The first game had some, but in the end not that many setups where really all that effective and I ended up using the same ones most of the time.

Also the main character remind me of Bruce Campbell so much, it's hard not to think he was modeled on him.

There is the game that fits this exact description which I read about on RPS a few days ago, though I can't remember the name.

Bleh, high heels. Fuck this.

Of orcs and men.

Anyway I played a bit of Orcs Must Die, and found it pretty enjoyable. Probably be buying the sequel, though I'm not not sure if I'd find anyone to play co-op with. Looks like there will be plenty of single player content though.

Bleh, high heels.
It's already a fairly silly game, why do high heels make it so bad?

Anyway, I quite enjoyed the first game, and will probably be picking this either shortly before it launches for that tasty 10% off, or when it goes on sale sometime down the pipeline.

I don't like the design because it's yet another stupidly sexualized woman, and I'm beyond sick and tired of that. Too often, it seems to be the only thing that designers can think of when they're making a female character, be it in a silly/cartoonish or more realistic game.

The "cutscenes" from the first game already showed her like that, so I guess it was to be expected, but it still irritates me.

I'd like to see trap synergy as well, we'll see if they added anything of the sort. And apparently one of the new defenders will be a dwarf -- a more offensive melee counterpart to the defensive paladin, I wager.

I noticed no one appears to have a problem with the fact that you brutally eviscerate thousands of sapient beings with crude homemade traps.

its amazing how the general gaming community works aint it? drugs? those are horrible! slight nudity? not in my country! visceral violence? whats wrong with that, seems fine.

at any rate, already preordered it after playing the first one for less then 2 hours, the game is fun.
