Hello !

I don't know if it is the kind of game people would like here, but I have just spotted that Mayhem Intergalactic is on sales ( http://www.inventivedingo.com/ ).


It is a vey simple, turn based, space strategy game. Just Imagine a turn based galcon, with the twist that you have very little info about the other player's strength. I like that simplicity.

Well, to be honest, these last few years, the forum has been extremely calm (last post is a strategy guide I wrote 1 year ago : http://www.inventivedingo.com/forums/index.php?topic=175.0 ). But apparently it is not entirelly dead yet : first there is those sales. But the author has also been kind enough to send me the communication protocol between Client/Server, so I could write a bot (that would allow creating new AI...). We'll see how far I can go with that...

The demo is pretty fun too.

You left out a lot of important information I couldn't readily find on the site.

Is there research? Colony building? Races?

It sounds like a Master of Orion or GalCiv but how does it compare to those games?

No, there is no such things. It is not a 4X.

The main features are :
- Your planets build a fixed number of ships every turn
- You can upgrade one planet every turn (builds more ships)
- You can only send your ships to another planet, and you can't call them back when they are mid-flight. However, you can send your ships to any planets on the map (of course the further, the more turns it takes)
- You don't see the number of ships on enemy planets, nor see what ennemy ships are coming to your planets.
- However, when there is a fight on a planet, every player can see the number of ships involved and the results (which is where you get most information from). So, sending just one ships to an ennemy planet is a cheap way to scout it and know the number of ships located there.
- Also, the turns are played simultanously by every player (Everybody enters its orders first. Then every player's ships move and attack at the same time)

As I mentionned, the rules of the game are very simple. Which make it pretty elegant and way closer to Galcon, than Distant Worlds, Aurora, or any other 4X. But these simple rules make data gathering really crucial to win.

@Ivefan : Yes, it is pretty close. As well as Galcon and Eufloria, and probably hundreds of other games...
However, what I like in this one is that it is turn based (you have time to plan), and that you don't see your opponent's ships.

@gimlet : I haven't played Spaceward Ho!. However from the manual, I would say that Spaceward Ho! is much more complex, and would rather be somewhere between VGA planet or Stars! and 10 Minutes Space Strategy. Looks interresting though.
