Romney should step aside.
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:56:55 am »

The republican canadate isn't official yet. They still have time to change. Romney isn't just representing corporate interests, he is them personified. He can not only not win, but he's going to give Obama a huge victory. Obama can't even solidly beat a Texas felon in West Virginia. Any other canadate would be blowing by Obama by now. Romney can't even go neck and neck. If he stepped down it'd give the GOP a shot, but Romney is too determined to get whatever the hell he is after.

Still. He should  step down.

What's with the random politics threads from you?

Yeah there are other threads if you want to voice your opinion. It's not like heading a topic is going to give it more visibility or anything (well not the visibility you want).

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I seriously doubt that Ricky Shitfoam or Ron Paul would stand much of a chance either, much less Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, or Herman Cain and the like.

Actually Gingrich might have stood the best chance out of all of those. Old people vote and he is one.

Sure, he's got lots of things wrong with him, but he's a politician. Saying a politician has lots of things wrong with them is like saying a dog barks, a cat meows, a Charlie Sheen does drugs, or an Emilio Estevez gets forgotten (Charlie Sheen's brother who played the coach in Mighty Ducks, see? People needed reminded.). You don't really need to ask why; it's just gonna happen that way.

My mistake, I somehow thought that I didn't want to talk about Obama's mistakes or why he would be a bad president. I thought discussing the merits of a republican canadate who was a shoe-in for nomination stepping down or being tossed out for the good of the Republican Party's chances would be worthy of it's own topic.

Ron Paul and Rick Santorum both failed because they have that "might be fucking crazy" vibe to them that drives voters away, but Romney has the opposite problem in that he just kind of emits malaise.

This election is pretty much over.

We spend most of our time on the internet. Most internet people are liberal. This and the false consensus effect make us think that the election is over. I live in the south, and down here the election is anything but over. Romney could say he's gonna nuke China and he'd only get MORE votes from down here.

As much as the white southern worker hates being pushed downward from the middle class, they hate voting for their interests even more.

If Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez are brother, why do they have different last names? Is one of them a 'stage name'?

I'd almost never vote Republican (or for most Democrats) anyway, unless they resurrected zombie Teddie Roosevelt...

Hell they should just abolish political parties, but that's asking a bit too much huh.

If they resurrected Roosevelt, they wouldn't run him. The Republican party of 100 years ago is very different from the Republican party of today.

Yes to both. While a partyless political scene would probably be better, that Us vs. Them mentality is hard to shake.

Well, I guess in addition to the general election thread which is for all things American Election related, we also need a 'Romney is a dirtbag' thread too, due to the myriad of talking points about this fine topic.

Of course, we could just keep it to a few things here and there and keep it in the other thread but hey, if we want to open up some more cans of worms I'm sure we can catch some good fish.

Romney is a dirtbag. But the point of this topic is more "you silly republicans, you still got a shot to pick someone who isn't."

I agree with the crazy vibe of Santorum and Paul. Paul had a unique demographic that might have let him pick up cross party supporters that Santorum didn't have (assuming that Republicans have the market cornered on religion, which they don't)

The thing here is we can throw out other names that would work besides the big primary canadates. Jeb Bush with Condolizza Rice have a shot?

How about McCain and Cain? That'd be a fun ticket.
