Literally anything you do could be the most efficient Adventurer, because this is Dwarf Fortress, and there is no 'luck' only war and the laughter of thirsting gods. Ahem, I mean there is only the RNG.

Bard could probably use his guitar to bash peoples heads in and rock some tunes to either buff your allies (speed, increased chance of severing a part) or mutilate enemy ears with your music (metal or just plain bad music)

But seriously, did you just suggest a method to weaponize musicality?

I vote agility and picks. Picks sever better than axes, pierce better than spears, cooperate with shields and level MINING.
Miners, lashers, peasants and things with armor for companions, but only 2 or 3.
The only reason not to go demigod is role-playing.

And as a bonus, when you get bored with Urist mcadventurer, you can retire and get a legendary miner badass as a migrant.

"Badass" is the key word here. I'd much rather have gut flailing heroes though.

1. Demigod human, natch.

2. Anything ranged, but melee-wise swords/whips. If against undead any ranged is best, in unable to use ranged use something blunt and heavy.

3. Undead Titan with web attacks or armored mummies. If in need of meat shields even skins take a while to bring down.
If your going non-necro, hire yourself whoever has a nice weapon you wanna use, non-undead companions are more trouble than they are worth.

1. Demigod Human outsider, knife user, that large copper dagger is amazingly good at decapitating people(slash). And you could probably find a large iron dagger in a dungeon.
2. Any dwarf, go against large groups and you will kick ass with martial trance.
3. Any creature with misc object user, kill people with their own tongues.

As for companions:
Dwarves if you can find them, undead dragons, undead dragons, undead dragons.
