That is a cool setup. I used to have an electric 'heater' that looked a bit like a huge thermometer that actually went into the barrel. It broke though, hence problems.

Brew lagers for the winter. You certainly are not going to keep your house below lagering temperature.
It's a different type of yeast.

Mr rat is still about though currently not where I can catch him. Only just found the stangle trap.

I had a flood problem in my cabin where I brew. Though it was the roof, but roof was dry. Then said its probably the rain under the door and kinda ignoured that problem. No power as brother knocked that off was bigger issue.
so I come in today to get a few bottle of banana apple cider left in the demi and the place is flooded. This time I have a major look for the source, the paticular smell helps give it away. The little fecker has but holes in 2 plastic demijohns and they have but 2 gallons of hopped cider all over the floor!.  He is so dying for this!
