Strange mood requiring impossible number of items.
« on: July 14, 2012, 06:54:53 pm »

My dwarf was struck with a strange mood. Using dwarfhack, he needed 20.000 units if cloth. What is happening?

"20000 cloth" just means "2 pieces of cloth with dimension 10000".

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Thank goodness Zea never saw the hospital setting for reserved items.:)

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.

Wouldn't it have been epic if the dwarf created a shoe with the history of the world? In this game, that somehow doesn't seem that out of place.

Nah, that's weak.

I am terrible at this. I make a coffin right away when one goes strange, and THEN I try to get his mats.

It's really not too difficult to have most things in stock that your dwarves might want for their moody times.

I always buy small amounts of things I won't use for anything but moods, like few blocks of cheap metal, different kinds of thread and cloth, leather, different sorts of glass, especially crystal glass, some stone blocks, fire clay if not on the map.
In most cases this will be enough for your every day mood. I also let one dwarf go fishing early on, in hope for some shells which might be wanted by some dwarf and they currently cannnot be traded for. If you don't have any turtles or mussels on your map and a dwarf wants shells ... well, build a wall (unless you already have a cavern with cave lobsters). ;-)

How did you get this much information? Normally you just {q}uery the workshop with your dwaft and see things like "cloth", "body parts" and so on.

Using the DFHack "showmood" command, of course. After all, that's why I wrote it.

Yeah, cloth and thread use really large numbers for their measurements for some reason.

Just think of it as being like ammunition numbers- A .303 bullet does not mean that this gun fires three hundred and three bullets.
