Through the forge of war are heroes crafted...

and one thing df has absolutely, completely realistic is its tendency to encourage the player to draft peasents to fill the numbers...  we do this even today, accepting Johnny McFatfuck in hopes of molding him into a cost efficent expendable.

You..... you monster. Id rather loose 4 novice beekeepers rather then my whole fort because im to scared to draft a usless peasent into the military.

Every human dwarf kobold works, not a single in the army.
They dont work if #1, They have no skills in anything but pointless things that you will never use, or #2, there dead, which will be the case if you have no military, whether its from the usual causes (whip to the face) or other side effects of hiding in your fort.

I was under the impression that they folded. It would be cool though to make bridges that required more than one z-level to close.
