So, it looks like the Something Awful forum and its members are doing it again.  As you can see from the above image, Walmart is joining up with extraordinarily talented musical artist and generally fantastic person Pitbull as part of a marketing campaign for Energy Shitsİ.  When July 15th rolls around, the local Walmart with the most new "likes" on their Facebook page will attract the stunning star.

This is where the goons come in, specifically David Thorpe and Jon Hendren (if you happen to know who these people are, good on you.  I'm just copying from the article I read).  Using the pure force of digital mass and electronic weight that can be pulled by a goonswarm in action, these guys have started a viral campaign to ensure that the Walmart page with the most likes is that of Kodiak Island, Alaska.  It didn't take very long before the number of likes on that page surpassed the entire population of Kodiak, and at the time of this writing has just under 71k likes.

When asked about why he hates Pitbull, Thorpe responded: "I don't hate Pitbull, I think he'll have a wonderful time in Alaska."


This is one of those times when you can really dig that feeling of community, and of uniting towards a common goal.  Almost brings a tear to the eye, don't it?

Pitbull seems to be in on the joke. On June 30, he tweeted "I hear there's bear repellant at Kodiak, Alaska."

At least he's okay with it.

Couldn't it be just for the hell of it? They might not have anything against the guy. That's no reason not to do it anyway. Maybe they just like Alaska and want it to have some love. Or just did it to do it, just to see if they could.
