Hmm been thinking about trying this but the whole renting thing is putting me off a bit.

Hmm been thinking about trying this but the whole renting thing is putting me off a bit.

I like it.  It takes about 7 minutes to earn enough GP to rent an item for a day, so it's really easy to try everything.  Plus, there's an avalanche of temporary rewards you get for leveling up early on, giving you tons of opportunity to try different things, figure out what you want, and save up to buy everything you want when the temporary free rentals wear off.

Dystopia was an HL2 mod, right?  If so, I think I gave that a try the very first day it was released.  I found it really difficult to understand, and never went back to see if it had been streamlined later.

I'll try it out tomorrow if the weather is bad, this kind of F2P system is a bit scary to my brain but it sounds like it might have been done fairly well.

I was thinking the same thing as I got it, but its actually a lot better then I expected it to be. Its really not as hard as you think it is.

Finally had the spare time to patch it. Time to see if I can actually run it on my craptop.

I like the system more when I think of it this way...

You are purchasing used parts. Sure they aren't likely to last very long, but they are cheap and will help you do damage. Every now and then a part 'breaks' and you have to replace it. So it's simple weapons maintenance.

Heh, that's actually a pretty interesting way to look at it. So I suppose the permanent buying is essentially you paying for a permanent supply of parts from your employer or something.

Well, timed rentals usually feel more like the store sells you a gun with a small bomb in it that'll make it explode 24 hours from its purchase, but whatever works for you.

Despite that, Blacklight's one of the few games that does the F2P rental thing right. You earn enough to rent a gun for a day in a round or two, and during the time you use it you'll probably earn enough to rent it for a week or buy it permanently in 3 or 4 days. Depends on how much you play, really. The main things you can't buy with in-game cash are just some weapon skins (Which all look terrible), camouflage for your armor (Which doesn't look as bad), and taunts (Which are stupid and are rarely used except at the end of the match). I'm not sure about the other things I saw - They may simply be higher level things, but I'm not sure.

They do have the "random boxes of stuff" for real cash, though, which is something I'm solidly wary of. Do not touch.

The only real advantage P2P players get is the fact tags cost zen, but you get a free perma-tag every level-up.

The game is amazing for f2p fps. I unfortunately stayed away from this due to having bought their first abortion game. Ok that's not really fair, it wasn't without it's merit. This game is great. ID is Hemmingjay

Paying for guns lets you use them before the level requirement

Yes, but you can still earn them. The wallet-warriors are annoying, rather than broken OP. That aside, once thing I've noticed that bugs me is that apparently the only way to have more than 1 loadout slot is to shell out $10US for each additional slot, as I didn't see a way to buy slots with GP. Did anyone see anything different about that?

That said, I'm enjoying it enough that in a week or two I might be willing to buy a second slot. Apart from that, there's not much point to buying up parts unless you've got a specific build in mind, as you'll unlock most of them anyways.

Has anyone else found themselves completely forgetting about CP? Most games I play I end up with around 3k or so in the last minute, when I finally notice that I haven't spent any.

I unlocked a second one at some point without buying it. Might be a level thing.

EDIT: Simmura in-game. Add me, we'll shoot people.

I'm Knightly if someone wants to friend me.

Is it just me, or are silencers totally worth the near non-existent drop in damage? Lowering the recoil allows you to hit a lot more a lot faster from what I've seen, and it's pretty rare where 2 or 3 points of damage would have made a big difference.
